I went to an auto glass shop for an estimate for my windshield today. The guy told me that it would be $230 for a HUD windshield. I've heard that the glass for the HUD was expensive. Was he full of :bs: or does this sound like a "great deal" as he put it?

There are HUD windshields and there are China HUD windshields. One is not equal to the other and will result in a hazy or doubled image. Although some report a non-hud windshield works just fine with a HUD. I've never replaced mine, but I need to. I'm a little afraid of the result.

FYI, my new HUD windshield was $825 installed... don't go cheap

There are replacement windshields...

Then there are EZ Cool Windshields( the 92-99 came with these from the factory )

Then you have the EZ Cool, Heated( 92-93 iirc ) Hud Windshield

Then you have the EZ Cool Hud Windshield

I have seen the Hud on an EZ Cool windshield, the image is readable and not all that bad, but it does ghost a bit..

On a Hud windshield these numbers are clear..

My 95 Bonneville still has the EX Cool windshield... The van has the same type of windshield to help reduce solar load..

I'd have to say $230 is way way too cheap for a Hud Windshield

i had a non-hud windshield in my old 97, the image was fine at night, but would ghost, and would be too light to read in the day time.. it was deal-able, but nothing something i would intentionally do. my car came with the cheap windshield in it before i bought it
