Washed, clay barred, and polished the GTO today. 96 degrees here today so I did it under a canopy. Tomorrow I’ll be installing the Monaro style side markers. (sourced from a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer).

Installed the performance spark plug wires from ZZP (along with the coil packs and alternator voltage booster a week ago) and the car is running better than ever.

Of course the rear driver's window broke out of nowhere.

Win some, lose some.

I replaced four speakers in the GTO. Still need to change the ones in the deck but so far it’s a big difference. I also can’t believe how easy it was to take everything apart in the back.

I've done quite a bit this week in terms of car guy stuff. Cleaning house!

First, I finally loaded up and scrapped out the '05 GXP I stripped down. One scrap car gone!

Then, I stripped my '86 LeSabre shell and loaded it up with scrap:
Image
That was hard for me to do, but when the seats just pull out of the floor pan without needed to be un-bolted, well, yeah it's done.

Then, I ran out to pick this ol' gem back up:
Image
Image
Turns out, that subframe lasted just a few years after we sold it before it gave out, all four rear mounts the bolts broke free of the body. Car is a rust bucket underneath, and not worth saving. Going to be stripping it down this week and scrapping the body.

In other news, the '89 winter beater is officially up for sale. Going to pull the fat sway bars off it and replace a warped rotor, and fix the rusty frame creaky noise first though.

Good news and bad news today. Bad news, the water pump on the Volkswagen started leaking so I get to tear that apart over the next couple days and drive the GTO to work.

Good news, I got a package from down under!

What you did there, I see it...

So, yesterday, I R&R'd the rear brakes on the old van. Much like Matt's cars, this thing is a pile of rust. In the process of getting the rear rotor off, I ended up tearing out the spring anchors for the parking brake shoes. I was able to get one back in and secure. The other, no. I need to figure out how I'm gonna push the backing plate around that hole back into shape to that it will once again clip once turned in. For now, I needed to get it back up and going, so I could get to the 2nd job last night.

At the second job, just as I was finishing up, the alternator crapped the bed...

On the previous episode of Ryan fixing something and failing. I mucked up the timing somehow during the water pump job and managed to bend valves on 3 cylinders on the Volkswagen. Time for a new head! So I had to go get a new head from the junkyard and basically refreshed the whole top end of the engine. I got it running just as it got dark out. Tomorrow I will do an oil change and top off the coolant and put the bumper back on so I can start driving it again. Driving be GTO to work for two weeks straight has been stressful to say the least.

Sold the beater yesterday, and finished powdercoating parts for my next project.

I finally got the Bonneville washed yesterday and it's looking great :). It's been a long time and really needed some attention, but due to restrictions following an injury, the cars have been very neglected this year :(

Hope you're doing well!

Discovered I have an exhaust leak, which is a bit annoying, since I just fixed the previous one I had in September. Also discovered I have a very worn out subframe bushing. With the car standing on the ground, I can spin the bushing around with my bare fingers.

Yesterday I washed the engine bay and vacuumed out the GTO. This morning when I got to work the Passat was spewing coolant. Turns out I never tightened the bolts on the coolant flange all the way. Strange that it hasn’t leaked until now even though it’s been 2 weeks and 400 miles since I put it on. I tightened them up so hopefully I won’t have any leaks when I get home. I don’t have time for that this weekend.

In the never-ending process of re-organizing my storage still. I ran out of bed frame metal and casters, I was using them to make rolling bases for all of my shelving units. I have one shelf left to convert to mobile, and one super flimsy junk shelf that I'm replacing the four corner supports with much stronger ones from a shelving unit I found at the local recycler. 3D printing brackets to attach the old shelves to the new corner supports. I also setup some simple rope and pulley mounts in the pole barn for the kayaks to get them off the giant pile of mess.

The end result of all this?

Only three cars will be out in the driveway on a normal basis. Sounds crazy, but my driveway will finally look like normal people live here. I've got the T-type, the '67 and the SSEi in the pole barn at the moment, the SSEi is the only one of those that moves under it's own power so it got the door spot. I'm still cleaning up the fourth spot, that might take a little while yet, hopefully before it snows..

put air in my tire and found that now my pass airblend is also stuck on outside so I have no air with the hottest month upon me - I guess I should be happy its not the ac system - line is cold.

Did a Mobil 1 Synthetic oil change on the Bonneville and flipped my boat roller mount back the way I initially installed it before the transmission shop messed it up.

I thought I was fooling myself that it would make a difference, but the vibrations around 50km/h are gone and 90km/h are much less noticeable! Woo hoo!

I picked up some used SLP long tube headers this weekend for $200. Today I painted them black and they are ready to go on. Also ordered some LED fog light bulbs for the GTO and also headlight bulbs for the Passat. I had ANOTHER hid failure so I’m done with the HIDs for good.

Got one and a half headers installed on the GTO last night. Getting the rack and steering shaft took too long so I gave up for the night. Going to finish up today.

Did some bondo work on the part of the car below the filler flap. To be honest, it took longer than I thought. Still waiting on the actual paint and clearcoat to come in, so this isn't finished yet. Obviously.
