So I got my 03 bonny ssei diagnosed today after running hot, steaming & making noises & they told me I have a blown head gasket, water & oil mixing, built up pressure in my engine & the code that is coming up is p0306 which is a misfire in cyl 6. Basically, it would cost thousands to get fixed. Wondering what suggestions you guys have to bring my baby back to life... I was thinking about buying a used engine & replacing mines but that's running pretty costly as well...

so how long did you drive it hot. Those 3800 motors take alot of punishment.My son about killed his gtp-low oil meaning 2 quarts,overheat and I bought it and fixed it. 2 years later and still strong. The bonneville I just bought the girl drove it and it had water in the oil aka chocolate milk.Redid the heads and lim gaskets and replaced the uim. Running like a champ.I dumped about $800 in it.375 was on the heads.Can you do the work yourself. Get a book you can do it just take pics.

Not saying it's impossible, especially if it ran hot, but 99% of the time these motors don't blow headgaskets. Likely it's your lower intake manifold gaskets going bad. They dump coolant into the oil, and can allow coolant to leak into the cylinders, causing your misfire. I'd tear it down to the lim gaskets first before I'd yank the heads. However, maybe run a compression test on it. That will let you know if you have a head gasket.

Pull the plugs, turn it over to expell any coolant in the cylinders and do a compression test to verify head gasket issue. If compression checks out without variations across 6 cylinders, you may be able to save the engine by just replacing the intake gaskets.
