So I did the rear brakes on my car yesterday, finally. I planned on doing a full write up on the procedure, but when I ran in to some stupid, that went out the window.

At any rate, I went for ACDelco Durastop shoes, and ACDelco Advantage drums. Suffice it to say, the car stops awesome now! I had no idea it would make such a difference! one thing I did notice however, it seems like the previous owner may have taken a trip with the E-Brake on, because the drums were horribly out of round, and the shoes were cracked and cooked. Not only that, but it has also cut down the nosedive, which I had attributed to old front struts.

If the car stops this good, I can't imagine how ceramic out front could make it any better

Please tell me you greased or replaced the auto-adjusters as well, or it won't stop like that for long.

Replaced, and greased.

I may have spoke too soon. On the maiden voyage, I never exceeded 30mph. Yesterday, I drove it around town, topping out around 45mph. When I get on the brakes above 30, the car shutters. When I push past 45mph, the car starts shuttering pretty bad even when off the brakes. Push up to 65, and the shaking badly. Get on the brakes hard, and it calms down a bit until I let off the brakes. If I had to guess, the drums are unbalanced. When I put the drums on, I noted a massive weight that spans about 1/3 of the rimface of the drum.

The car still does awesome under 30mph. In the process of troubleshooting with ACDelco and RockAuto

Check your lugs. After I had a few off last fall I must've missed final torquing of a wheel (I usually snug up good, put car on ground, then torque) or it worked free, but I had similar vibrations. I stopped, hit the fronts with a lug wrench and sure enough they went away.
