I've been wondering if...at all any..there is a difference between those two years of SSEi's?
Or is it just the same? :banana:

Don't fool yourself, they changed plenty. It's usually the smallest and minute things that changed though. Like more tables in the pcm. Slightly more aggressive timing and shifting. Differences were typically not noticeable to the average person glancing at the cars.

I believe that's when they changed to the no-post throttle body, as well...

Year and Trim: 2004 GXP - plus a handful of other Bonnevilles
also, no paper gasket in the thermostat housing in the 99.

These are all engine/wiring/computer differences. Are there any external visual keys to tell the difference? Not that I know of.

The 98 had a no post, I rebuilt a 98 TB a few months ago. Also I think some fasteners may have changed like going from 1/2 inch to 12 mm. They changed the detent cable clips in 99 and they also changed FPR's IIRC.

TB = Throttle Body.
FPR wasn't on the list, but I'd go with Fuel Pressure Regulator.

TB=Throttle body
FPR= Fuel Pressure Regulator

99 had the option of OnStar. I think that was the first year it was offered in a Bonneville.

Was the 99 engine pretty much identical to the 2000 (minus motor mounts)?

The 98-03 motors are basically identical if you strip off the mounts and accessories. Although in the L36's stovepipe diameter was being changed.

Actually, the post must have been a mid-year change, because my 98 Park Ave Ultra has the post, as have several 98 Bonnies and a couple Rivs found in junkyards. I'm pretty sure I'd find the same split across the entire Series 2 L67 line-up.
