Anyone have a carfax account or some way to tell me if my engine and transmission have been replaced? The car has 222k miles on it and it runs like brand new. I'm thinking someone replaced them both at the same time awhile back. Anyone able to help me out?

Just went on carfax and it shows there are 39 RECORDS! Now I'm really worried.. ANYONE? haha

It is just showing records for title transfers and stuff. Not something to worry about.

A carfax isn't going to tell you if an engine/trans was replaced.

Just did one with instavin and it just showed me there have been 4 owners. Nothing else. Autocheck shows 49 records. Good thing this report was only $7.

Is there a way to check if the engine has been replaced? I know I can check the number on the engine.. but where would that be located? 3800 series 2 SC

Sometimes there is a barcode sticker on the front of the engine behind the AC compressor bracket, but its unreadable with the engine still in the car. Even if you could read the sticker, I don't know of a way to match it to a car.

Basically, unless there are junkyard markings, or sloppy work, there is no way to tell if its the original engine or not.

You don't need to replace the LIM itself, just the gaskets. They are prone to failure, and will leak coolant into the cylinders and cause engine failure if left too long.

Ohhh then I'm good. Trust me, I learned that lesson when i had 2 engines go for that very reason.
