I am looking for an engine for the '00 SSEI.
Car-part.com and junk yards are telling me a S2 L67 from a '99 bonneville or from an 02 GP / regal will not work.

I was under the impression that there should not be any problems and that the only differences might be things like upper torque mounts or oil filter adapter.

Does anyone know what's different that would make them be saying that?

On the wiki page it says...

I believe there were slight differences in the dipstick tubes, and headers between the H and W bodies iirc, but the block remains the same for the years you mentioned.

The engine itself should work, but you will need to take the mounts & accessory brackets & accessories off your '00 and swap them onto the 'new' motor. The oil pan may need to swap over as well. The oil pan on the '00+ Bonnie is structural and one of the engine mounts bolt to it. So if the engine comes out of the '99 Bonnie you will need to swap the oil pan. Coming from a GP/Regal I'm not sure if they use the same design or not.

The GP and Regal pans are also different. They are notched and the mount for those is actually under the pan. Ours is bolted to the end of the pan. As Booze said, pretty much any series 2 will work, you will just need to swap things over.

OK - thanks for the replies.
I was kind of figuring/hoping it would be small external differences like these and that the parts can be easily swapped.
