I've seen a nice looking 2000 Bonneville SE for sale, seems clean ans straight apart from rust bubbles on the back the hood, 106k miles and everything works.

Any weak points I should look out for, How do they deal with towing?, I will use it to pull my 1800lb caravan.
My current '87 Olds Delta 88 tows fine, but its engine gets on the torque curve at lower rpms, I know the Boony makes more torque, but at higher rpm.

Any information welcomed;
Roger.

The weakest point would be brakes and transmission. That can be addressed with a cooler and upgraded brakes. The other concern would be gearing. What is the gear ratio's of the cars? If you have a higher gear ratio in your current car, and a lower one in the new car, that puts you at a disadvantage, coupled with the different power characteristics, may be even worse.

Also, read up on the Upper and Lower intake manifold/gasket failures. That is the engine's weakest point, and can destroy it quickly.

As long as you know what you are doing, and address the concerns with towing that much, with a proper hitch it should do about the same if not a bit better than the Olds.

If you plan on towing with it, be sure to put a cooler in. Otherwise you will easily get trans temps over 200*.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

I'm too late, the car has already been sold for more than I wanted to pay anyway.
I'll spend a little money keeping my Olds in good shape for a while longer, The windows need fixing but otherwise it runs well. I like it but the Pontiac was a better car, reflected in as much as I paid £600 for the Olds, the asking price for the Bonne was £3400.

Roger.
