I have driven both and they drive just the same. I notice no difference between the 1996 and 1997

Nobody would ever notice that unless one was having problems.

It was a different trans from 96 to 97 for the supercharged cars not the N/A cars. Wasn't it?

Because we have had a 96 and 97 SE and they have the same trans.

I don't know why anyone would notice a difference at all.

If you're FEELING a difference, there is something wrong with one of them. They should not drive any differently.

I did read that they made a change from 96 to 97... I have a 96 my friend has a 96 and I have two 97's....the 96 drives smoother... It's sounds crazy but gm changed something....a sensor? Torque converter? I will have to find it again....

Again, if they aren't the same in 'feeling smooth', there's something WRONG with one of them. It's really that simple. When new off the lot, there was no driveability difference between the two years whatsoever. Between 1996 and 1997 with the SE/SLE (having the L36 under the hood), they are the same transmission. The 4T60E.

This is not true with the 96 and 97 L67's (96 had the 4T60E-HD and the 97 had the 4T65E-HD), but even with those, 99% of the drivers out there would be hard pressed to find any difference in how the car felt or drove.

Great info. And I owned both and they seemed exactly the same to me.

Bad mounts or suspension would be a biggie in difference.

@ willwren-probably a typo but u Said 4T65-E with L36. Shouldn't it be 4T60-E?

Smoother as in how? Acceleration?

The only differences *could* be either gearing or suspension, depending on how the cars were optioned. Nothing else mechanical would have changed.

The 96 PCM was on par with the 95 PCM... The 97 PCM was smarter...

Overall 99% of the 95's all of the 96,s and 97 L36's should run about the same, given they have the same gear ratio...
