Year and Trim: 1997 bonneville se 40th anniversary
Hello. I recently acquired a 97 bonneville se 40th anniversary with only 83,000 miles. My question is as follows. I know approx. 637 ssei 40th's were made making them the ones to have (so to speak). But would my se be a good one to hang on to considering I have a hard time finding another for sale? And the way I managed to get this one was by pure chance. It was a trade in at work. I seen the badge and floor mats and thought it was kinda neat, but didn't think much of it until I googled the package. Thanks!

Meh, it's rare, but it's not really valuable or collectible outside our community. It's not ever going to be worth much more than any other 97 Bonneville in similiar condition, miles, etc.

That's kinda what I figured. But what the heyy.....It's a nice car and I think I will keep it awhile. Always liked the body style. Just didn't know if it was something I should keep garaged. Right now Its my only car so don't have much of a choice lol! But thanks for the insight!

Not RARE. Rare means valuable or collectible. The only difference in your car is an RPO label in the trunk, floor mats, and a badge on the C-Pillar.

Call it uncommon or hard to find, but not rare or any more valuable. What it means to YOU is what matters.

Yeah, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Some of those limited edition packages do spark some collector interest. The "Final 500" edition 2004 Olds Aleros, for instance, do tend to bring a premium price. Olds also did "Final 500" editions of the Intrigue and Silhouette (only about 350 of the Silhouettes were produced) when those models reached the end of their respective runs, but they seem to have less collector interest than do the Aleros, which were indeed the final Oldsmobiles to roll off the assembly line. The "Final 500" package was similar to the 40th anniversary Bonneville in that it consisted of special badging, floor mats, black cherry paint and a tan leather interior. To my knowledge, Pontiac didn't do any final edition packages.

True collector value often takes a long time to establish itself, but cosmetic packages like we're talking about here usually aren't as desirable as those that include some special performance accessories as well. While a '70 Hurst Olds 442 in pristine condition low miles on the odometer can command a six-figure price, but a '70 Cutlass with the "Rallye 350" package that combined most of the cosmetic goodies from a 442 with a garish yellow paint job that included the bumpers, which was unusual for that era, and the standard Cutlass power plant of the day is a nice conversation piece, but much less appealing to hard core collectors with deep pockets.

I'd say keep it and drive the wheels off it.

As for collectibility, I wouldn't say they are worth anymore.

I personally have one and it's kinda neat but there's really no difference than the normal one and mine doesn't enough have the floor mats.

For me I would much rather have a better condition car than an anniversary edition as the value isn't a huge difference.

For me, if I was looking at 2 similar cars in same condition and price. I'd take the 40th but otherwise really not a huge deal.

It's still cool to own one though!

Mines got 288k on her and still kicking
