I'm always looking at details in my cars, and have been wondering about something.
If you look at the pic, and look at the front-side of the car, just front of the "SSE Pontiac" letters, there is a "grill" in the white plastic right behind the wheel well. The grill looks like the grill in the rear bumper for the rear reflectors. Here the grill is occupied by some black plastic. Any therory why the grill and the black plastic is there? Does the grill have some function is some Bonneville or maybe some other GM model? Maybe originaly designed for a yellow front side marker?

I'm pretty sure it's just the aesthetics of the car. Something the designers put on there the integrate the body trim color to the side moldings.
