Yeh...it`s all coming back to me now! Had a 1994 Olds 88 that had the same mysterious water in trunk problem. Can you guys tell me where to start looking? here`s the lowdown....trunk seal appears to be in great shape and is flexible. I know water will drip in when lid is lifted, yet she seems to get water in there even if its not lifted up (after car wash) Possible leak through spoiler mounts? Body putty intact inside and no holes in trunk. Is this a factory problem with a fix? Anyone with the solution, please point the way.
Thanx. Chopper :???:

There are lots of possibilities - lens gaskets, seal around the antenna, cracks or missing seam sealant, rear window seal failing, wheelhouse to trunk floor rust holes, etc.

The time-honored method for finding a trunk leak is to strip out the linings, crawl inside with a good flashlight and close the lid. Have someone slowly run a hose from the bottom up all around until you see where the water is coming in.

Sun roof vents under the roof liner could be leaking which happened to me, it ran down the trim into the trunk, no water damage to the rest of the car, just puddles in the trunk.

You all may benefit from reading through jr's3800 water leak thread. This stuff is pretty much covered there. I'll see if I can find the link.....viewtopic.php?f=19&t=176

Thanks guys...I`ll check the sunroof vents tomorrow
and crawl in the trunk to check for tailight / seal leakage.
Interior is bone dry...everywhere, problem only in trunk.
This car is mint, with no rusting anywhere so it`s getting in
somewhere that isn`t obvious.
Think I`ll have a buddy help me out....my wife would leave me
locked in the trunk if she helped!
She would claim it was an accident.... :-k

You could just try to squeeze through the door between the seats.

When you're looking, consider the trunk lip that holds the seal itself. I have a 2000 SSEi (I know, different trunk, but same problem) and I looked at ALL the suggested fixes. None were the problem. I decided to check the trunk lip seal. It wan't perfectly symmetrical on both sides. so I pulled off the rubber seal and bent the lip "up" just a little and put the seal back on. So far so good. Seems it's easy to bend the lip when leaning on the seal when putting things in and out of the trunk. I had this problem since I bought the car over a year ago.

Since it worked for me I thought I'd mention it. I wish you luck finding the leak, as this can be really frustrating.
