Can someone let me know if i would be making a good decision by buying a 2000 SSei? I like the looks of it but how is the cost of ownership? Is it pretty expensive to maintain? Any common problems that I should look for when test driving?

For starters, look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=88
You really need to know the maintenance history of the car in order to make an informed decision. If little was ever done to it, it could be one of the worst decisions you ever made but if properly maintained and the right price, you may be very happy.

It will be towards the bottom as far as cost of ownership. Parts are relatively cheap, and the platform is proven and is among the easiest to maintain of all FWD cars that I have seen. Most people go well over 100k with doing nothing but oil changes and air filters, etc.

Do you have any more info? Age of the current owner, miles, current overall condition, if they have any receipts for work done recently, etc all has an impact. If it has over 130k miles the major things I would be concerned with are the health of the transmission and whether or not it has had the Lower Intake gaskets replaced and the dex-cool flushed out. If none of that has been done, expect to do it all sooner rather than later. The transmission might last a while if it hasn't been rebuilt or replaced, but the LIM Gaskets are a known weak-point, and should be addressed.

Another thing to consider is that this car requires Premium gas (92 or 93 octane), and typical mileage is in the low 20's mpg. On the other hand, you get a lot of car for the money, and this website can tell you how to fix almost any problem you might encounter with one.

An L67 in good condition will get 28-30 highway MPG regularly. Not running premium will do long-term damage to the engine and lower your mileage.

We bought it. Look forward to using the forums for any help I might need. Can someone point me to a good mod post? Do these cars respond well to ecm tunes?

Search is your friend, as well as checking out Techinfo and the Performance section. All this is well-documented, and lots of folks have posts about what to do, and what not to do.

as a member of countless other forums, search is definately not my friend. I will try it before asking questions though. :-D

The search around here is decent. It's not Google, but it does find the topic pretty well. Or, there's using Google to search the site, like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=2000+sse ... mages&tbs=

Not trying to dissuade you from posting, just trying to point out there's a ton of information already on here! :beerchug:
