On today i went to a salvage yard with my dad to look for a tranny for his 99 bonneville se. the man at the junk yard told us that we can use the same tranny that came from a 2008 chevy impala because it have the same 4T65e tranny. is this true? we did comparison and they both look exactly alike! but he told us the only thing we had to do is use the wore harness on the chevy and may have to use the axle off the chevy as well?

Nope, it's completely different internally. It's true that it is also a 4T60E, but it's still completely different. Not going to work, as the 08's use a completely different way of communicating from the engine to the trans to the PCM, and it's not similar at all. The case may be the same, but it's not compatible w/ your car.

That salvage yard is pulling your chain, wonder what they would do when you take it back when it doesn't work.

Your 96 has the 4t60e, the 08 has the 4t65e, and they are not nearly compatible.

It's for his dads 99, not his '96.

Still...it's very different electronically.

yeah, even GM doesn't let a transmission go un-updated for 9 years.... lol glad you didn't listen to them.
