I can see that my front brake pads are nearing the end of their useful service life. The wear indicators have not started to touch the rotors yet, but they're close. My rotors were replaced in the previous brake job, and still look very good.

Is there a brand and/or style of pads that are considered particularly good for our cars? I don't have slotted or drilled rotors, but on past cars I've done well with semi-metallic brake pads. Is there any difference in stopping power with ceramic pads? (better? worse?)

-Very interested to hear if there is any general consensus on brake pads.
-Mark

Bendix CT-3 or TitaniuMetallic. I've used both...they're both excellent. Too bad you can't get top quality rotors anymore from Bendix though.

Alot depends on the quality of your rotors, or more specifically, the thickness of each 'plate' between the fins. If it's sufficient (greater ability to dissipate heat with greater thickness) ceramic pads have been used with great success.

Benefits?

No brake fade. Quite the opposite. They bite as hard as semi-metallics at first, but bite harder and harder the hotter the rotor gets. Now you see why the thickness of the rotor matters.

They also won't dirty up your wheels.

I Loved my ceramic pads on the Bonne. Feeling is a little off until they warm up some, but they were better than semi-metallics under normal. These aren't HUGE improvements, but they're noticeable.

No visible brake dust was the biggest plus as a crosslace owner.

I had great results with NAPA Ceramix pads on the 95. Gonna go back to them on the PA for the next set of pads.

I bought a pair of Performance Friction brand front pads for my 1998 LeSabre:
http://www.performancefriction.com/index.htm

From what I've read, these (or Hawk) seem like the best bet in non-ceramic pads.

I was going to put them on, but then I got my free Bendix brakes (if you know that story).

I'll check the p/n on the box when I get home; if they'll fit your '97 you can have them for the price of shipping.
