Today while driving I look down when the engine doesn't respond accelerating slowly from a light. I look down, and see 17* of KR on the scanner. I push the gas a little more to give it more gas to combat the KR, and it jumps to 21*. The car's up to maybe 15 mph with my foot most of the way to the floor. Thankfully nobody was behind me as I let off the gas, then stabbed it. A big fat 0 shows in the KR display as the car rockets forward.

I swear, this light-throttle KR is enough to drive a guy to drink, or to buy HP Tuners to mess around with my PCM. Drinking sounds cheaper and easier. :drunken:

Odd... I wonder if the PCM thought it had real KR or tried to enter Torque Abuse mode for some odd reason

I don't know. It's running great otherwise. Most of the time there's very little KR. But like clockwork, at most light-throttle accelerations, or when I roll onto the throttle at low speed, it gets giant 12-17* KR blips.

I'd love to know what's going on when that happens. It does pull lots of timing like there's real KR.

Don, this is also the PCM that Intense sourced for me back a few years ago from an unknown donor. They took a solid month to get it to me, waiting on the donor, IIRC. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I wouldn't completely rule out a faulty knock sensor. I would think sense false knock under other conditions as well, but it's not entirely impossible for it to be a bad sensor.

I could buy a faulty knock sensor. Hmm, I bet they're impossible to remove without lots of other engine work.

Front knock sensor not so bad.... Rear knock sensor sandwiched between the engine and the trans...

He would only have one sensor though. I don't know whether its in the front or rear though on a L36.

IIRC there are 2 on this engine. My 1999 FSM's say there are 2 also. They're located under the exhaust manifolds in the vicinity of cylinders 3 and 4. Or, the middle of the block.

No extreme knock today. So far. 10* once.

Hmm interesting. I thought that was one of the differences between L36 and L67. I guess not! 10* is still a lot for a N/A engine!

Pretty sure you're thinking S1 to S2 Tom. I'm pretty sure S1's only have 1 knock sensor.

Yea thats probably right.

Either way, the rear sensor could be a pain in the arse.

All series II engines use 2 knock sensors ;)
