We already know a lot of this already, but it was interesting.

We've posted that one before. Very similar conclusions to BobIsTheOilGuy.com.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but the Quaker State filters I use are still made by Purolator and have not been switched over to Fram.

I personally use K&N, Mobil 1, Wix, or occasionally Purolator. No Frams. I like Wix the best, as they have a steel coil spring in the can, whereas K&N and M1 have sheetmetal leaf springs that can lose their spring, and cause problems.

Wow, I just use whatever non-Fram filter I can. Right now it's a Purolator-made filter I got for $0.95 at Advance.

My reasoning is that since there are very few makers of filters, any given filter will do fine over the 7.5-10k oil change intervals I do. Also, many OEM's recommend 7500 mile change intervals without special filters. If it's good enough for the OEM's, it's good enough for my car.

Now if you're doing 1-year/25,000 mile oil changes, then by all means get the Amsoil EaO or another synthetic-media oil filter that can withstand those conditions.

Now if you're doing 1-year/25,000 mile oil changes,

I must be out of touch with oil and oil filter change since I've always changed oil on every car I've owned at 3000 miles. Last car I had had over 300k on it and was still going strong. I've done maybe 500 oil changes in my lifetime but keep in mind I've had more then one car and I include my wifes car also.

Back when I was born in the mid-80's oil was lightyears behind what it is today, so longer intervals made no sense. Today's synthetics are capable of going 7500 miles in many cars that have seen regular oil changes and do not have a history of sludging the motor. That's with any filter, too.

If you want a crazy oil change story, my fiancee's 2009 Honda with the latest gee-whiz oil life monitor let hers go 10k miles on regular Pennzoil 5w-20. And a Purolator filter. The engine is running just fine at 13k miles...
