the place around my house said it would be 150 for a new transmission filter and fluid, is this reasonable?

Agreed, assuming it is a simple pan drop. Mine ended up being $120, but that also included the $40 reusable rubber gasket from the dealership.

depends on the vehicle really....like on my truck for example....its an obscene mess that involves visiting the seventh level of hell just to get the pan off....instead, specifically for the h bodies..its extremely simple, entirely straightforward...drop pan, remove filter, reinstall pan, fill...done. This can be billed for about an hours work on an H body...so yes, including fluid, filter, and labor, $80-100, as Don said, would be reasonable...unless you're dealing with a dealer, or you're getting a flush done, whereas part of the money you're giving them is paying for the machines and detergents they use.

And don't let anyone tell you that the filter doesn't need to be changed...there's quite a few places out there shoveling that crap.

Oh, and it probably wouldn't be a half bad idea to put a can of seafoam trans tune in your transmission and drive for 100 miles before having this done...it has a tendency to remove/dissolve any buildup and/or varnish buildup in the valve body and solenoids that can really improve your driving experience and result of the fluid change.

Call your local AAMCO and ask them what their price is on just a fluid and filter change. I can't imagine it being outside that range.

Bob came to my house last Sunday morning, we dropped his pan, replaced 8 quarts at $1.99 per quart and the filter was $17.00.

So... about $35.00 and while we were in there we installed a shift kit that cost me all but about $5.00 in parts.
it took about 90 minutes because were both slow.

Any auto parts store will take/recycle the old fluid.
