Year and Trim: Black 2000 SSEI
My son is finally at an age that he realizes there has been a sleeper in the driveway (our mint Black 2000 SSEI) and he is now asking all sorts of questions.

"Dad! What is that like hyper drive thing that kicks in when you floor the car? That is AWESOME!!!!!" or "Dad what is that whine sound, is that the supercharger you told me about? COOL!!!!!"

I will keep all of my stock air box to reinstall if I ever sell, but just purely for eye candy for the kids as well as a louder whine, what is the cheapest set up that will work without screwing up a sensor or anything?

He and I saw some dirt cheap stuff on ebay (under $20 for tube and filter) but not putting any of that on there without asking some folks here.

Again not going for maximum horsepower gains (we are very happy with what it has for now) just something with an aggressive look and louder supercharger whine so we can spend more time together cruising.

Thanks for any suggestions and if anyone has any used exhaust parts they could give us a deal on that would be tremendous (I will put an ad in wanted section now for those)

Thanks,

John

LOTS of Mods
Honestly the Intense FWI is your best bet. It will replace everything (so you can keep it) and will whine Louder

Exhaust: I like the Aerochambers. Search some youtube videos for an idea of what kind of sound you can get out of a 3800 though.

The FWI is the best intake, but there is a cheaper suitable option. The "rice-pipe" setup. here= post5881.html?hilit=rice%20pipe%20autozone#p5881 Just beware like the write up says and don't use the cheap filters at the parts store. Get a brand name quality filter or you'll be hurting yourself more than helping.

PS: I did try one of the dirt cheap ebay ones once. Within minutes of driving with it on I could tell the tremendous lose of power. They are notorious for being short so one size fits all and they suck in hot engine heat instead of colder outside air, which makes your engine dog down pretty hard.

Thank you very much! I am going to use the directions on the "rice pipe"

I just ordered the K&N RX 4750 for $56 including shipping on Amazon and now I will have to decide which Spectra pipe I want.

I might get out for under a hundred bucks and have the satisfaction of doing it myself. :beerchug:

Silicone coupler (TB to Intake pipe) 3.5": (need 2 hose clamps.. they sell stainless ones here too)
Black: http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=6&products_id=619&osCsid=4f98ffe620192c218f8d2eef9cef00cc
Blue: http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=6&products_id=610&osCsid=4f98ffe620192c218f8d2eef9cef00cc
Red: http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=6&products_id=379&osCsid=4f98ffe620192c218f8d2eef9cef00cc

SS Hose clamps: X2
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=12&products_id=1046&osCsid=4f98ffe620192c218f8d2eef9cef00cc

Then use a 3.5" 45* aluminum pipe:
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=19&products_id=287&osCsid=4f98ffe620192c218f8d2eef9cef00cc

Drill a small hole for the AITS (use PCV gromet) to make a snug fit and seal the hole.

Add your filter (i used RU-3130, 7" Cone w/ 3.5" inlet... ~$32)

mount your PCM with large zip ties or use a S10/Blazer PCM tray (1996-02ish)

Thats what i did to make my intake... i did add another section with a weld to make it a full cold air intake. I have seen others build a heat shield to block the hot air in the engine bay from sucking in.
If you can imagine this with the filter on the end of the upper pipe, rather then the other pipe connected to it. FYI i have another lower piece with the weld if you want to make it a full cold air intake... let me know..

FYI the filter you listed fits a 3" pipe, i would suggest a 3.5" because the Throttle body is 3.5" and you don't want to reduce it and cause a restriction... You can do it just like i posted but you will want 3" pipe and a 3"-to-3.5" reducer coupler... if you dont want to return the filter.

final product will look something like this:

looks like your filter has a groment hole for a AITS.. if it fits you will need a AITS extension from ZZperformance cause the wire will be to short.. Also a 1991-3 Syclone/Typhonn AITS is cheap and screws in if the hole is too big for your stock one.

Or you could cut and splice in some new wires on the IAT sensor harness.

Man, I really appreciate all of the good advice, Thank You very much. Yes , I will probably want to buy that piece to rig up some cold air intake if you can hang onto it till I get my filter in the mail and see what I am working with.

Again great info :beerchug:

PM me if you are interested in it. the piping i have will require a 3.5" filter. If you do a FWI i would get a Hump hose to connect the 2 together rather then a straight like i used to connect them, allows for a little movement. the FWI does need the filter cleaned a little more often, gets kinda dirty down there. I have a Gromet if you wanna drill a hole and plug it in like i did (used a step bit). If you have a stock trans mount i would suggest a Puck mount as well... keep the pipe from banging around and gives the car a crisper launch..
