I have a '97 SSEi with 270,000 kms. Have started losing supercharger oil, needs to be refilled every 300 miles or so. No visible signs of leakage. Could it be internal? Thanks.

If you pull the sc belt and spin the pulley, do you feel, hear, see, any play or friction motion? When you say "refill every 300 miles", do you mean 2 full bottles every 300 miles, a top-off every 300 miles, what. What oil are you using to refill? In any event, having to put in any amount of oil every 300 miles is excessive. If it isn't coming out the pulley end or leaking down on the intake, it is either burning it up or leaking it into the sc down into the intake.

The questions asked above are critical. Especially the amount you add and what type of oil you're using. It's critical to inspect very carefully for that leak. It's very uncommon to be leaking to the INSIDE. Very uncommon (not impossible though).

Feel the bottom of the snout, the vent on the end of the shaft, and all around where the snout bolts to the blower.

(I moved your topic to the proper section for you, and you may be interested in the red link in my signature while you troubleshoot this)

I trust Brian (I know him well, and have for years), but I hope you did some troubleshooting first.

Again, look at the red link in my signature. The swap is pretty obvious. Fuel rail needs to be unbolted and pulled aside, TB disconnected, pulley swapped (you better have the right puller, a 3-jaw won't do), etc. Swap your BCS and BCA to it, as well as the vacuum trees. Don't forget your PCV.

Did you buy the supercharger alone, or a snout (nosedrive) also?

Yes, read your notes, and troubleshot the best I could. Cleaned up engine, and after 2 days limited driving of about 20 miles, oil was dry, with no visible leakage on engine or under car. When got the car 20,000 kms ago, during fluid change, found supercharger had very little oil in it, and it was a black sludge. A couple of flushes and it held oil for a while but deteriorated quickly.

Car is now parked until repairs done. Ordered complete unit. Both belts show signs of wear so will do them at same time.

Thanks for your help.

What kind of oil are you using?
