My front right speaker went dead the other day. I went in today to iron that out. It's an Infinity Reference 5.25" that I put in over 20 years ago. What I discovered was that I had merely wrapped the wires around/through the speaker posts and wrapped them in electrical tape. It made it a good while. Longer than the connectors do on the door speakers in My G8, that's for sure. The speaker mounts a bit weird. There is space between the speaker and the cutout. It's just kinda suspended out there on the 4 posts. I have no idea of the original speakers were like that.

I took the opportunity to clean up what I think is probably spilled soda in the door pocket.

I took some pics for reference.

Hate that GM decided to mount the speakers to the plastic door cards instead of the metal inner door skin. Same thing on 2000+. Awful for sound quality and rattles. No other car I have at least has this weird design.

Glad to see you got your speakers working again though! They're classics at this point.

Are the sections of plastic you removed from the rest of the door card cracked near the screw holes that hold it on? Mine have been for like 20 years.

I had 1-pc 96 door cards on my junkyard list for a long time and will probably never get them. IIRC the interior colorway remained the same 95 to 96 even though the styling changed. I feel like Don has that written down somewhere..

Not that I noticed. Don't see any cracks in the pics I have either.
