Driving the Bonneville this last week, I realize my headlights are so dim! They are, or were, good halogen bulbs, but I guess they've aged out

Do led bulbs even cooperate with the headlamp monitor? Is the beam pattern a complete basket case with our old halogen housings?

I ordered some low beams and will give it a shot, with and without those anti-flicker things.

LEDs seem to work pretty well. Compared with the old PIAA, the beam seems to have a more consistently shaped pattern. Obviously brighter and whiter. Doesn't seem to be casting any weird glares. They don't flicker or upset the headlamp monitor. I don't have any anti-flicker modules in there, though these say they have it built in. So I can't say the anti-flicker isn't required.

I did get expensive ones.

I'd double check the alignment and beam pattern further back. It looks like the LED is throwing the beam higher.

I also recommend looking at the headlight housings to make sure the finish on the reflector isn't baked off.

I'm still a holdout for the 9012/9011 conversion with relay harnesses myself...

I'm going back and forth between the pics, and the beam just looks a little broader to me.

I'll keep an eye on the reflector. It hasn't been an issue in my wife's minivan with LEDs in typical halogen reflector lense.

Check your aim at 25-30 feet away from a wall on a level surface. You might need to make some adjustments.

Yeah. I was tweaking it a bit last night. The left was a little high and to the right.

I ordered Hikari's cheaper line for the 9005 brights. The ol halogens in there are aimed better for brights, but not that bright at all compared to the new low beams. I was thinking about the Pilot fog lights, getting LEDs for them. But I don't actually know what kind of bulbs they are, and they actually do a really nice job on their own, even with the 20+ year old halogens.

The cheaper Hikari's are noticably not as bright and seem to need resistors. The bulb warning came on without the resistors, I installed them and the warning stayed on and then went out after a power cycle or two. So I think they did the trick.

So I was all good with forward lighting, but one of the front turn signals gave up... I swapped the bulb to the other side and confirmed it was the bulb and not the socket. The weird thing is the bulb filaments look fine.

Driving it tonight. The bright bulb warning was on steady and they did flicker a little bit, even with the anti-flicker things. I'll try different bulbs.

I got the same Titanova Hikari line for the 9005 brights and they work great without resistors or warnings.
