Is there is a difference between ignition coils for a 97 n/a bonneville versus a s/c bonneville?

I'm 99% sure that on of my ignition coils is pooched and I want to test it out with a junk yard coil but they don't have any supercharged bonnevilles or grand prixs in there.

there is a difference, but idk if it woudl affect you finding the bad one?

The coils should be the same.

There is a difference.

The 97 and newer L67 coils are a little 'hotter'. They can be identified by blue insulation around the primary sockets underneath.

They are interchangeable, but are not the same.

I ask this question a while back on the old forum but never got a reply. Reading the Techinfo it was showing the resistance the same on both the primary and secondary sides for both types... what make the L67 hotter? Thanks

There are alot of factors. Smaller wire has more resistance. Larger wire diameter has less. So it may simply be a difference as simple as that. I've never dissected a coil to determine the difference.

In order from cold to hot:

92-96 L67, 92-94 L27, 95-05 L36. All use the same coil.
96-03 L67. L32 unknown, but most likely.
MSD 8224.

All three types are a small step 'hotter' than the previous listed. None will make a drastic improvement. I went from the weakest to the hottest, and noticed a slightly smoother idle and POSSIBLY smoother power through the midrange. Not more power, but smoother.
