So... to start with the obvious, have you replaced the battery?

hi, your ride has to relearn the fob so do this....

stand in front of car...

push both lock and unlock at same time and hold for 10 seconds..

the car should cycle and you will hear the horn and see the lights flash - your fob is now good to go or should be...

This seems odd. I know this is required in some GM vehicles, but I've never had to do this with mine. The Owner's Manual makes no mention of this in the steps to replace the fob battery either.

For the OP, when you say "it lost its mind", can you be more specific? Does it do nothing at all, or some form of erratic behaviour? After months of not using it, is there any change it has been confused with another fob in the household? Are you sure the battery you installed is good? I've had some right out of the package that were completely dead.

ok, here is the manual for your car.....http://www.vadengmpp.com/owners-manual/ ... eville.pdf

page 2-13 has the info on resync.

Resynchronization
Pressing the transmitter button numerous times
(approximately 250 times) out of the vehicle’s operating
range may cause the transmitter not to work. Replacing
the battery and pressing the transmitter buttons out of
range will also cause the transmitter not to work. If only
the instant alarm works, the transmitter needs to be
resynchronized to the receiver. To resynchronize the
remote keyless entry transmitter, press and hold both the
button with the lock symbol and the button with the
unlock symbol at the same time for about eight seconds.
You must be within range of the vehicle.
Once the transmitter has been resynchronized, the locks
will cycle (the horn may chirp and the exterior lamps
may flash depending on security feedback settings).
The system should now operate properly.

hope this helps.....who would push the buttons 250 times.....lol

Ah, yes. I see what you've got there. Sorry, this changed over the years. If I recall (now that you mention this), the remote control door lock receiver (and possibly the fobs) was different for 2000 (and maybe 2001) than it was for later year Bonnevilles. Good info!
