What types/brands of batteries are good for a 2000 Bonneville SSEi? Mine is hitting the 13 year old mark, and doesn't like to hold a charge longer than it has to after the car is shut off. (I get about 5 mins on my radio and then its a struggle to start back up). I don't want something cheap like Everstart or Superstart. And is it recommended to get a gel cell or a regular liquid filled one?

I have an optima red-top in my car, but I wouldn't really recommend doing that, it's not secured or vented, lol. I like Interstates, but that's just me.

Yeah, in my old '94 it had an interstate in it when I got it. And after a year or so, I put a Red Top in it. But since this one needs to be vented, is there a special battery, or do you have to do something to a battery to make it vented?

My Optima Red-top died after 3 years. Had AC Delco before that that only lasted 5 years. I seem to have better luck with Interstate Batteries, 6-7 years.

You just need to buy the right battery. You may have to trim the vents a little, as I guess they've changed the width of the battery. Not overly complicated.

The SSEi uses the larger battery, this battery is an upgrade for an SLE/SE... Currently have an interstate in my 03... The PO had the interstate put into the car a little over a year before I bought it... so its been right at 5 years, batter still starts the car but seems to be getting a tad sluggish... I will replace it with an Exide or another Interstate...

The car calls for a 79 series, but I always put in 78 series.

On the advice of "another" forum's findings, I've started using batts. from Autozone. 4 years now with no concerns/complaints. (except price, was NOT cheap)

79 series of what brand?

Any. The "series" is an industry standard.

So I went on the interstate website and they came up with a "MEGA-TRON PLUS 79 AUTOMOTIVE BATTERY SIX-YEAR PERFORMANCE 840 CCA." From the pictures they have of it, where do you "plug" in the venting on that thing? I might have to take a look at my current battery and see how that setup is. Here's the link for it: http://www.interstatebatteries.com/cs_e ... _V6%2f3.8L)

They go on the sides, they're flat, rectangular ports that the vents connect to. Straight back from the posts in this picture, the little rectangular ports sticking out of either side:

Oh, I see now. I thought those were tabs for handles to put on. Thanks.
