Apparently the bulbs have burnt out behind half of the buttons on my Heat/AC controls. Anyone have info on how to replace them? Thanks

Hey which ones exactly? I had a bulb go out on my fan control/off knob. That was a PITA to replace. I got it done. They aren't replaceable per se. You have to unsolder the old dead bulb and solder on a new one. They just don't screw on and off like a regular bulb.

The problem is that some of them are LED's (which should last a good long time) and the others are actually incandescent bulbs (which won't last nearly as long - in theory).

The actual way to 'fix' this if you brought it to a dealer would be for them to replace the ENTIRE HVAC control unit. This costs somewhere upwards of $400... Even a new one on GMPD was $250+, if I remember right.

If you don't have electronics skills, then your best bet would be a JY. They wanted about $60 around here for a used replacement unit.

Here's a picture of them. All 4 buttons on the right have no light behind them. I'm going to contact Ed Morad about a replacement, if he doesn't have one, I should be able to replace the bulbs myself. I would like to see what I am up against though, before I tear my dash apart.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you'll have no problems.

Those 4 buttons are all lit by 1 incandescent bulb (the other 4 buttons have their own, and each knob has their own - total of 4 incandescent bulbs). The little lights on the buttons are LED.

Removing the HVAC controls couldn't be easier though. You just take off the dash bezel, and the controls are held in with 2 plastic clips - 1 on each side. Just compress the tabs together and it slides right out. To open up the controls you'll need a screwdriver pop open the back cover. Then a few torx head screws are in your way. Just remove them from the circuit board and the back of the control knobs (there's 5 screws if I remember right). Then the board will lift out and the bulbs will be right there.

Big question for me, is where do I buy those replacement bulbs? Incandescent and LCD?

Well, the bulb I used was the bulb from a spare hazard/blinker control housing (the light that lights up the hazard button on the dash). I just unsoldered it from that and soldered it in the HVAC board.

I found lights that look like they will work on eBay:

They look VERY similar, but I e-mailed the seller a while back and they didn't know if they would work. I didn't really expect them to know, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask them. If I had to buy new ones for other blown bulbs, those are the ones I'd try first as they look closest to the original bulbs than anything else I've found online.

Thanks for the information!! I will give it a try, if I screw it up I can get one from Ed Morad for $60 shipped.

On a side note: On the way home from work tonight I noticed three buttons on the radio are not lit up either. I'm going to assume it is about to same process to fix that too.

Pretty much. I think they have different bulbs. Andrew (harofreak00) has a thread about it.
