Yeah, so I'm trying to reset my Fuel Used and Average Fuel Economy on my DIC and holding the reset button in doesn't seem to be doing it anymore. Everything seems to work except resetting it. I had a little problem the last time I tried resetting it but it eventually reset after a combination of button presses and holds. Any ideas? Is this just a board behind the buttons or is this a bigger computer issue?

How long are you holding it? Hold it longer.

I've held it for over a minute and it didn't reset.

If your DIC fails to reset after four or more hours, you should consult a professional.

About the only thing I can suggest is to remove the instrument panel, take that module out and apart, and see if you see a problem with the buttons.

That's easy enough. My dash has been partially apart for over a month. The DIC module is just sitting in the hole where its connection point is. I'll try unplugging it and plugging it back in to see if that makes a difference, but I doubt it will, as I've had the battery disconnected a couple times recently. I'll try it anyway, and if that doesn't do anything I'll dig deeper into the module.

Ok, I discovered more tonight. It appears for every power cycle I can use the reset button once, i.e. if I turn the key to on, I can reset one setting, like the fuel used. If I select my way through to avg mpg during the same cycle, I can't reset it, but if I turn the key off and then on again, I can reset the avg mpg. Just plain weird.

Finally got around to doing that and cleaned all the contacts and it seems to have done the trick.

Looks like the problem is back. Avg. MPG is hovering around the 19.x range within a couple tenths and I can't reset it. Even if I sit at idle with the engine running for 10+ minutes it stays around 19.3. I have been able to reset Fuel Used reliably, just not Avg. MPG. Does anyone know if this computer is self-contained in the button module or the gauge cluster or some other place?

It is definitely not in the buttons.

You could try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes to do a hard reset.

Just had the battery disconnected a couple weeks ago when I was putting the dash back together. Guess I have to take it apart again. :sad5:

IIRC, those switches have a small metal dome covered by clear tape that when depressed, makes contact with pads on the circuit board. Did you remove the tape and the domes to clean underneath?

I've had a similar problem with my GXP for years. I recently pulled out the switch panel and tested it with a voltmeter. I found that if I push on the left side of the botton, it works about 90% of the time. If I push on the right side of middle of the button, it usually doesn't work. I also found that after the initial push of the button, if no connection is made, no amount of pressure or side to side movement on the botton will complete the circuit.

I will probably either get a switch or try to clean or repair mine, but for now pushing on the left side of the reset button seems to work fine. I would get a kick out of hearing that this works for you too, so try it and let us know. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but, nope. Pushing any part of the switch has the same result - nothing. When I get a chance, I'll take it apart again and see if I can figure out what is/isn't making contact. Off comes the bezel again.

Nope. I've taken the button panel apart and cleaned the little carbon contacts and circuit board several times, not that they ever appear dirty. Each time I do that it works for a short time and then starts doing it again. I'm not sure if cleaning the contacts is allowing it to reset, or if unplugging the button panel to do that is clearing something in the cluster (DIC) which then allows me to reset it a few times but which ever it is, it isn't permanent. :dontknow:

I just ran into this today. Reset the mpg once and now it won't again...

Doesn't look like there was a definitive solution found over the last 4yrs huh?
