Just a curiosity, lads.
If the burned out lamp detector is wired up to/sensitive enough to be able to tell me when one of my two license plate lamps is out, why can/does it not also tell me when one of my fog lights is out?
Is it because fog lights were an option(?), or perhaps due to the GM determining that fog lights were not necessary lighting, as is the case with headlights, tail lights, signals, and plate illuminators?

Because they weren't necessary. They were standard on all trim levels. If you look at the bulb connectors, you'll see the fog lights only have two wires. The ones that can give you warnings have three. That third wire is used to check for an open circuit.
