My grandson Alex stepped on the traction control switch in his Mom's 2000 SSEi. Now there is no traction control and apparently no ABS (?)

So, my son is trying to repair it or work around it. I looked in my 1995 FSM - the newest I have - section 8a-44-6 - and told him the pinouts to try to jump the switch. But '95 is a long way from 2000, and I am wondering if maybe someone could post or mention what color wires and what terminal designations do what in the 2000 model year.

In '95, a gray wire feeds the illumination for the switch through terminal E and grounds to a black wire at terminal F. A brown/wht wire from the ebtcm feeds the switch through terminal B and grounds to a blk/wht wire through terminal C.

I suggested he try grounding the brown/white wire to see if that would switch the system back on, but thought I might better check with someone who knew better or at least had a 2000 FSM.

Can anyone help?

I'll see if I can find it in my 2000 FSM's quick.

Ok, Looks like the TC Switch switches the Lt. Blue and black wires. Give that a try.

A disconnected TC switch should not disable the ABS system.

I currently have no TCS or ABS due to a ABS pump failure which in turn burnt out the EBCM. GM wants $2k to repair it......

Thanks, gentlemen, for the replies. I will pass on the information. At least my son has a garage to work in.

Don't bad wheel speed sensors knock out TC and ABS?

I was talking with my son about this issue and he tells me that he has changed both front wheel speed sensors in the past year, (but none in the rear). He also mentioned that since they have owned the car (a few years, now) whenever the traction control switch was thrown, the ABS light would come on.

Sounds like he is having the common "Service Stability System" problem. Even though he changed the front hubs, they could still be a problem, or the rears could be bad, or the steering wheel position sensor, or the EBCM, or the wiring, etc... The only way to check for sure is a trip to the dealer.

The switch I'm sending you will at least fix the broken switch, but I doubt its going to do anything with fixing the system.

Makes me appreciate older, simpler cars.

Prior to the switch being stepped on, when the traction control was shut off via the switch, the "trac off" to the right of the gas gauge, as well as the "ABS off", to the left of the temperature gauge, both lit up...or just one of them?

When the switch was thrown, the amber trac off light came on to the right of the gas gauge and the amber antilock light by the lower left corner of the speedo (?) both came on.

Interesting. Do we know if the abs is really deactivated when the traction control button is pushed. It appears as if the lights are controlled by the instrument panel module from a signal from the EBCM. Of course, most diagnosis is done with a scan tool. However, listed places to check are: The ground for the EBCM, the connector to the EBCM, as well as any problem along the harness from the EBCM to the IPM. The 2 problem devices listed are the same, EBCM and IPM. Depending on the RPO, instead of the IPM, the AC control module gets involved.

Thanks for the input, Dick. I asked son Andrew to follow this thread for clues to the fix. Hopefully, he will chime in eventually.

Andrew installed the switch from Haro today (Thanks Haro!), but the trac off and antilock lights stay lit when the switch is depressed, so it would seem that something else (besides the switch) is faulty. We will probably not work on this for a couple of weeks until Andrew's schedule lightens up. I'll try to keep y'all informed. Thanks again for all the help so far.

Finally got the car scanned today...
The Left Front Wheel sensor can not be reset.
The tech that scanned the car thinks it is a broken wire as
we have recently replaced the hubs and suggested starting
there. If the wire is good we may need to replace the hub.
I did not have a lot of time tonight, but was able to pull the
wire out of the harness - there is evidence of a splice from
the yellow and blue wires near the transmission to the
white and black wires to the WSS - There is heat shrink
Is that standard or has someone been here before?

What brand hubs did you use as replacements?

There is a standard heat shrink tubing that runs about a foot or more up the wires to protect it from road debris. Is it different than that? Check the other side and compare.
