Could someone please give me solutions to the problem of my cracked leather seats. And costs for each one. I am sure I am not the only one with a very nice Bonneville but the seats are shot.

I googled it. $$350.00 - 500.00 + for custom leather fitting.

Cracked seats are a little more difficult to repair than a hole (I've done that before). Best option is to replace the leather covers with a set from another member or a wrecker.

Considering your 96 has leather, it very likely has RPO code H4U on the spare tire cover. That's the SLE package. Your selection will vary by whether both seats need replacing, and if both are power or not. Color will vary as well. The covers themselves are alot easier to change on the non-AL7 (SSEi) leather seats like you have since you don't have the inflatable lumbars and side bolsters.

Can you provide pics of the cracks so we can better advise?

An estimate from an upholstery shop was $ 200 per seat in vinyl to replace bad leather. I am still open to ideas. thanks

I have 2 front seats in your color in my basement. I'd have to go look at them, but I'd be willing to sell the covers off them for far cheaper than the shop wants. I don't remember what their condition is exactly. I know they aren't new, but I don't think they had any tears or excessive worn spots like your do. If interested let me know and I can take a better look at them.

Hello again! Have you been able to check for the seat covers you have. Also, any reason why a 2000-2004 leather seat cover will not fit an earlier 1998 Bonneville. 1998 cars are 10 years old and finding the correct year with non cracked seats is tough. Joseph

i've never had too much problem finding a decent pair of seats at junk yards. plus i've seen that color leather much more often than anything else

That"s true, but of the three Bonneville"s with this color or any color leather, only one back rest(Pass) was decent.(I got it) And that car had a U.of M. decal on the rear glass. It turns out the M was for Maine. I am here in Miami, I think its hotter here. If I didn"t have a problem finding decent seats I wouldn"t post this.

I have pics... I'll get them up this morning if I can. A quick looks shows one seat not much better than you have, the other is better, ut still worn. Both appear to be more caramel color than tan.

Per a request by Goldenbullet, this is a repair I did over a year ago to the Zilla. While the seats in this topic may be a bit too far gone for this repair, it is an option for those with more minor tears/rips.

Buy the kit from your auto parts store, and mix it up. Even if the color is off a bit, it's still better than a hole. I suggest CURING a small amount on a test piece, then holding it up to your seat before doing the actual repair so that you can adjust the color if necessary.

Before:

Tear in the seat bottom, Zilla's right front seat. This hole was useful for evacuating human excrement as my passenger had the you-know-what scared out of them.

The repair has held up well over the last year or more.

Thank you Zilla for the suggestion and your repair pictures, looks good! SSEi95; Thanks for the offer and digging up the seats, but those won"t do it for me. I have found one good back rest and my passenger one is ok. So I will repair the bottoms at the upholstery shop. I will post pictures and costs when I "m done. I am sure this thread will help some one in the future as it has helped me. Joe

thanks for posting those up. it seems my seat may be a little beyond repair by those means, but i might try it anyway, i have a small hole in the typical spot on the drivers seat.

I finished the seats. The front; bottoms are vinyl and the backrests are factory, rear; bottom vinyl perforated part, the rest is factory. The camera makes the colors look overly mismatched. It"s not perfect but very OK. Total cost $300 and my labor. Yes Miami is green in January and its a 4 year old malinois.
