On my 2001 Park Avenue. There are two body colored plastic strips that run the length of the roof on both sides. The paint is fading very badly on these two pieces of plastic. The paint job on the rest of the car is in great shape, except for a ding in a couple of spots. The paint is perfect for the rest of the roof. A shop said he would have to paint the entire roof at a cost of $400. I was thinking of just masking off everything, wet sanding, and painting using some aerosol touch-up paint. I know it won't look the greatest but its on the roof so its not a big deal. But anything would look better than that faded white. (I'll post a pic later). My question is that I am trying to find a good place to by the paint. The paint code is 12 and the color is called Galaxy Silver Metallic. Any suggestions how to do this or where to get some paint for a decent price? The dealer wants $14 for a spray can touch up.

Do you have access to a paint gun? Air compressor? I highly recommend getting actual color matched paint from your local PPG or DuPont dealer and spraying with a real gun. Harbor Freight has guns starting at $14 that will suit your needs. As always, prep work is key. Make sure to use a premium Dewaxer/degreaser (e.g. PPG Omni MX190 Cleaner or PPG Acryliclean) and then tack cloth before spraying.

Unless you can get a spray can at Pepboys or Autozone, or someplace like it.... $14 for a can actually isn't bad. I get my spray paint from a place online, and it's 19-24 a can. Silver is tough to match, and it likely won't match exactly.

If you go the can route then be sure to go to a shop that can mix the paint by VIN#. GM has slight variations in paint color by year. $14 per can is about right for the good stuff. You will probably need a couple cans. When using spray cans make sure to do MANY light coats. You don't have to wait to long between coats but this will help prevent ripples in the paint. Ie. your first coat should be translucent and hardly cover anything. Build it up until it matches. Also make sure you mask everywhere. Overspray is a pain.
