I noticed we don't have this sticky on here, I think there are a lot of members that would like to do this but don't know how. I will admit I am one of them. I want to do this clean up my engine bay but I want to know how to do it with out ruining anything. So if you have done this before post away.

don't worry about ruining anything. Just use common sense (dont blast away at electrical connectors for 5 mins, etc)

everything in there is pretty tough.

Indeed. Most stuff in an engine bay is moisture, chemical and heat resistant. I would however advise keeping detergent away from bearings...I've killed a couple alternators by getting detergent in the rear bearing, and a few idler pulleys with the same.

We can work on that when you come over for the brakes. I've done a few.

I did mine on a very hot day. So I didn't have to wrap the alternator with a plastic bag. (didn't use any soap though) Just pressure washed it, aimed the car at the sun and opened the hood. Couple hours later it was dry as a bone.

I don't wrap anything but the air filter. The alternator and every other component under the hood is subjected to massive amounts of water by means of road spray in a downpour on the freeway.

Just wash it. It's that simple.

I was scared just like you, but I even took the engine cover out and sprayed it with regular high pressured water. I cleaned it again with diesel wash which is like a greenish color that is at the self car wash. just make sure you step back when spraying, you dont want to be too close to the parts witht that high pressure water. Make sure you park the car and have it dry before you drive it alot.
