Anyone know a easy way to remove aftermarket window tint :?:
A few years ago i had Apple Autoglass put tint on my windows
and at the time they only did 35%. I now want to do 20% in the
back windows and keep the 35% up front.
Will removal from the back window do damage to my defrost coiling
in the window :?:

It won't damage the defrost as long as you are careful with it. Basically you get a corner and start pulley really gently to get it off in one piece. Pull too hard and it will tear and you have to get it off in pieces. It will leave a nice sticky residue from the old tint so you will have to get some goo-be-gone or similar and scrap it off with a razor blade. Just be careful not to scrap across the defrost lines.

I faced the same dilemma a few months back. Taking off 10 year old baked on tint. Nothing chemical would even budge it. Not even the heaviest stuff in my arsenal (Styrene, Acetone, etc..it laughed at all of it.) Razor blade and patience were the order of the day. Pick an edge and work a little up, then peel slowly...repeate for the next 5/6 hours for a fair size piece of glass. (mine took 16 hours total... hatch glass, T-Tops, and side windows.)

The residue left on the glass was easy to scrape with the razor, the little bit that was left came off with Windex and paper towels. (Kinda convinced me to never tint out a car again  )

Same thing here. Nothing other than a razor blade will work. In my case since I live in Puerto Rico, & dont need the defogers, mine got scraped he heck out. & if you do this be carefull with the anttena.

Thanks everyone. :)
Wondering whether or not to let the pros do it.
Would hate to mess it up.

Even the pros might mess it up, & is not their car. So if you give the car to someone else to do the job, let him know that you are conserned about the defrost & the antena, & that you plan on checking them when he finishes the job.

the pros have a special solution that they use that is much like a solvent, or better known as mineral spirits. Honestly, I would let a tint shop do it, they shouldn't charge you too much, that way if it gets messed up at all you can come back on them for the repairs. Make sure they can garantee you that they can do it without damaging the grid. Good luck!
