I had 4 new Pirelli PZero Neros put on by Discount Tires. I have only had them on two days and I like
the ride and the cornering . It is a good tire. I have 1 issue. What ever they put on those tires
will not wash off. The two on the drivers side have a white film on them. I tried everything.
Even tho they are only tires it looks bad when your chrome wheels shine like new but your tires
look like crap. I had one more option. GooGone. That and a little tooth type brush and a lot of
elbow grease and it seems to get the most of it off. I only got one done tho as I had to come and spend time with the wife.
I will finish the other tomorrow and put some Meguiar's Endurance on them, wax the wheels, detail the rest of the car and drive somewhere.

I got the same tires, with no complaints. I got them really cheap on ebay, $333 new or something like that.

OK, bear with me here...this WILL sound stupid, but it does work in some instances. Test this procedure on a small spot on the tire to see if it works for you.

Spray a tire sealant on the tire. Allow it to sit wet for at least 5 to 10 minutes to "soak in" a bit. I use a private brand available locally called Super Seal. Any brand that feels slippery and greasy that you can allow to sit and it will completely disappear into the rubber leaving a more satin finish is preferred. The super duper glossy stuff just sits on the tire and doesn't do the job.

After allowing it to sit, use a medium to stiff bristle brush, wet down with more sealant - no water at this point, and scrub the tire where the sealant has been soaking. Scrub it well and then wipe off the tire with a rag.

Next, use what you would normally use to clean a tire. Clean the tire as if it hadn't been cleaned for a bit...don't go overboard, just treat it like a fairly dirty tire. Allow to dry and see if it is now clean.

I've used this method in the past for several tough cleaning jobs, the worst was cleaning the cracked and ever so crappy looking GM tan undercoating under the hood of an 87 Buick to get to the plain black paint underneath, without damaging the paint. Nothing would take this crap off. What happens is the sealant tries to penetrate the surface of the rubber and it tends to lift the crap from the backside as it gets in under the stuff on the tire. The scrubbing frees up the stuff, and the washing afterwards removes all loosened up stuff now on the surface of the tire. If the first attempt looks like it worked "somewhat", then do it again, but let it sit longer before scrubbing. If it didn't do anything at all, then it's not gonna work no matter how long you let it sit.

Like I said, it sounds stupid, but it worked for me on more than one occasion with new tires. Hopefully it will work for you.

Your idea would have been the next thing I would have tried. However the what I was using yesterday did work. I finished the second
tire today. I did put Meguiar's on it and they turned out great. I finished the rest of the car and it is ready to go.

Was the substance from the factory or from the shop that mounted and balanced the tire?

I have a set on my 04 and did not have an appearance issue.

I am not sure where it came from. It could have been the stuff they put on the tire so it will slide on to the rim.
You could see where they applied it on the tire. the film did not appear until I tried to wash the tire
with Westleys tire cleaner. They do look ok now. With a lot of labor and a brush they look good with Maguiars on them.

Westleys is a very strong cleaner. I stopped using it about 4 years ago and noticed my tires do not have a brown tint anymore.

We have P Zero Nero tires on our '03 as well. Last winter we ran over a bolt... a big big bolt  anyways, we got a replacement at Discount Tire and the replacement has a brownish film on it that I can't remove for nothing. I have tried all my cleaners and scrub brushes and everything. Looks great with the Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance tire gel though

Great tires by the way
