I recently purchased the Harbor Freight Dual Action polisher and I've been dying to try it out. Today the polish compound came in, so I tested it! I used the HF Orange pad and Chemical Guys V36 polish. These pics are from the 94 Blazer in my sig.

As you can see, there are still some scratches in the paint, but those are deep and I don't think there's any clear coat left to work with. I'm impressed for a one step shine. For the Bonneville I'll be using a smaller 5.5" Lake Country dimpled orange pad and the same V36 polish. Then I'll follow up with some paint sealer and paste wax.

Fun Isn't it :)

You are working on single stage paint there, no clear anyway. This reminds me of my old '94 S10 blazer, was very similar, 33" tires, rear locker, 350 engine... that thing was was a blast!

That looks great. What an improvement! Make sure to put pics of your Bonneville up after the polish.

It's amazing what you can do with the right tools.

For some odd reason, every I've run the polisher on my Bonneville, it rains.

I'm really sad about my Blazer. There wasn't a spec of rust on it when I bought it, and now it's barely supporting itself. If I could afford to do a frame-off restoration I would, but I have too many other projects requiring my attention right now. I started parting it out, but so far no one seems to be able to tell the difference between a S10 Blazer and the full size. And if they can, they want parts it doesn't have.

The only way I can justify getting rid of the Blazer is by having the ZR2 take its place. That one has already started rusting and I had it repainted a couple years ago, but the rust came right back after a few months. I'm not sure how to stop it.

I need a polisher in my life, especially for the 96 Grand Prix. That thing only shines in the rain.

I did another test section on the blazer and I noticed it's hard to spread the polish at speed 1. The pad wants to chatter severely on the surface. It seems to work fine at speeds 2-6. Not sure yet if there's anything that can be done about it.

More pics coming soon.

Just spread it around at speed 2 or 3, the only reason for spreading it at a slow speed is so it doesn't sling polish everywhere. Speed 5 should be sufficient to do the work you want, sometimes speed 6 will just dry out the lubrication in the polish and cause it to dust more and not be as efficient. A light spritz of water may help as well.

Not that it matters, but your old Blazer couldn't have been a 94. The government required a 3rd brake light, so that year got a LED light bar in place of the spoiler. It was also the only year to feature side impact beams in the front doors.

Title said '94 and the VIN matched so I dunno?

Edit...

It does have the third brake light, in some of the pics you can see it behind the spoiler, at some point the spoiler was probably swapped on with a different back glass.

Really amazing what just a couple passes can do. I'd love to get into detailing/buffing out cars in the future...It would be cool to see that blazer fixed up, they seem like fun little trucks
