Washed the car and its spotty as heck. What is a recommended soap that I can find at a local Farm&Fleet?

Also, a friend said there is a special wax for Black cars made by Mothers or Mcguire's. Any ideas?

Don't wash in the sun and be sure to dry the car by hand and you should be ok.

I'm hand washing with well water so I can only assume its kinda hard, hence the spots.

I dry with a 100% cotton cloth using long strokes, kinda like with a shammy.

Anyway thanks for the videos, I'll have to watch them later. Any ideas on the wax I'm thinking of though? I think my old Turtle wax might make it look worse.

As for a wax, something local and easy to find, Meguiar's Gold Class works great. Gives a nice deep wet look, but doesn't last much more then a few weeks. There are much much better waxes out there, but then you are starting to look at the pro stuff that is anywhere from hard to impossible to find locally.

You could try the Liquid Glass that is recommended by many here, but that can be hard to find at times also. Another good one is Meguiar's NXT gen 2.0 synthetic wax ( sealant ) and that is available just about everywhere.

good soap....I use gold class shampoo and dry with an absorber, its PVA...its like a chamois but 10x better IMO. Always wash in the shade and always make sure you dry it well. Also, use of compressed air is good to clean out the nooks and crannies from dripping on the paint if you're going to wax it, or to just prevent the drips from drying when its back in the sun.

I use NXT 2.0...its lasted for 13 weeks now, water is still beading perfectly...but to have this happen, you've got to make sure you start with a good prepped surface, including claying, and always wash with a high quality shampoo. You'll get insane results. :)

Does Meguiar's make the Gold Class shampoo as well?

I appreciate the suggestions.

My parent's have VERY hard water and I washed my car in the shade at their house before I did my last whorage. I had picked up a Mr. Clean No-dry car wash kit. It did a good job - just follow the directions. The filter did a good job IMO. There were no spots and I just let it air dry before the clay/LG treatment and it turned out great IMO. I did a hybrid of the kit's directions and the 2-bucket method: I used the supplied mit and the 2-bucket method once the soap was on the car.

Prep and maintenance is key with dark colors like black. After washing, use a clay bar if you haven't before. Then make sure you have it properly waxed at all times. Either wax it monthly or get a good sealant or wax that will last a few months. And do two coats to ensure coverage. Then make sure as mentioned that you wash in the shade and properly dry so you don't have water spots.

Use a coat of cleaner wax and then a good wax like Gold Class. I use that on my black SSEi, and it looks amazing, when not dusty. You will be amazed at the amount of stuff the cleaner wax pulls off. Wax in the shade as well, never in direct sun. Is there no softened water, in the house, etc, that at least you can use in the bucket? At least that way it is less hard water hitting the car. As for wash shampoo, yes meguiars makes all Gold Class stuff, and I've heard that it is a good shampoo, but for now i use Eagle one stuff that was BOGO a couple years ago, i have a lot to use up, so i will stick to that and use it up, and it works really well, too.

I use DuraGloss car wash. Been using it for over 15 years, always happy with it. Doesn't strip off waxes and smells good too....kinda like wild cherry.

I did a test to remove these water spots:

I filled a bucket from inside with hot water, poured it on the front-left fender, then used a dry towel to wipe it clean (not dabbing, that didn't do jack) and she is perdy. I need to go out and buy a wax now though because I can see all the scuffs from years of use, but from 5 feet that fender looks amazing compared to the rest of the car.

You need this if you want to continue to use the well water.

Not necessarily. I've washed cars for the last nineteen years with well water since we've lived in this house, and have had very good results following basic common sense car washing rules.

1. Start with a cool car in shade or indoors.

2. Use two buckets and two CLEAN wash towels (micro fiber or 100% cotton; sponges and mitts will hold small particles that will eventually lead to scratches / haziness in the paint.)

3. Dry the car by hand, again using two clean towels, either micro fiber or 100% cotton.

We have an affinity for dark cars, and none of them have any have water spots. Nor do they have any fine scratches whatsoever. Granted, some places have harder water than we do, but we use no softeners and you can spot up your car with any water if you wash it in the sun. I'm not saying the Mr. Clean product doesn't work, but it isn't necessary if you avoid washing a hot car and take the few minutes to hand dry it.

same here...our water is so hard it might as well come out in whole pebbles....i've made the mistake of trying to wash in the sun...bad, BAD idea...so i do it earrrly in the morning in the carport or the driveway and then make sure its under complete shade as I dry it with the absorber and I get absolutely fantastic results.

Farm&Fleet has a few Gold Class waxes...which one:

Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax
-or-
Gold Class Liquid Wax

Another tip to use (though the shade one is key) is to take off the nozzle on your hose when you are done and hose down the car from the top down. It's what is called "sheeting". If your car is waxed, the water will mostly slide right off so you will only be left with minimal beads. That way you can drastically cut down your drying time so you don't have to stop and wring out your towel between each panel.

If the clear Coat car wax is in a tin, and is a paste wax, get that, that is what i have, and it is amazing, especially on a black car. I've also heard nothing bad about the liquid wax, either.

I bought the paste wax in the tin and the Mr Clean Auto Dry. Once this rain stops I'll give you all an update.
