Hi everyone! In thinking of getting new headlights and just tinting them slightly. The factory ones just can't be saved, and I'm not paying $350 for one headlight. So this is the cheapest route for new headlights with the GXP look. What do you guys think?

Why can't the factory ones be saved?

No link, I was just asking for input. But the factory ones have cracks and interior water damage/cloudiness. So I just figured buying a set off of Amazon for $200+ was easier and this paint shop is gonna charge me $80 to tint them.

Why not get another set and swap the lenses? From what I can tell it's mostly the interior of the lights that are darker, it just shows through the lens.

^ That's what I would do. Tinting the lenses will reduce your output. 9006 halogens are dim enough as it is.

I have a set of HIDs coming in for lows and fogs so I think it won't be that bad on visibility. But I'm still gonna have the old ones re-glazed for insurance.

Just swap the lenses. Then you keep the darker chrome and HIR highs.

I'll see how the new ones look when they get here and decide then I guess.
Thanks for the ideas!

Worst comes to worst, you can pull the new lights apart, tint the amber piece, and paint the bulb caps black, they look very similar to the GXP.

Stock headlights (non GXP / 05 SLE)

Ryan, only the GXP got different headlights. The 05 SLE still had the non-GXP headlights.

2005 SLE had the same headlights as the 2004 - 2005 GXP.

2005 SLE had the same headlights as the 2004 - 2005 GXP.

That is correct Ryan! I have the GXP style lights in my car.

So you have HIR's Eric? I could've sworn my buddy's 05 SLE had 9005's when I pulled them....

I have upgraded my lights to HID's, but yea, it's still the 9005 bulb I believe. Here's a picture..not the best, I can try snapping another later..

The headlights themselves are the same, I am talking about looks only, no idea about what bulbs are in them from the factory, that makes no difference at all on the appearance of the headlight.

To my knowledge, the ONLY difference between the GXP and the older SE/SLE/SSEi lights are the darker orange corner reflector, the black glare caps, and the HIR high beams. Nothing else.
