Im new to this forum and the wife just picked up an o5 gxp last week but the headlights has that yellow haze to them. My question is will the ebay headlights for the regular bonneville work with the gxp bc it seems as if alot of the say "except gxp". So will they work and if not whats the difference between the regular bonneville headlights and the gxp's. Any help is needed before I order them for $248 and they not fit thanks.

You can de-haze them with some different grits of sandpaper, and then polish them. There is a thread around here somewhere on how to do it, with pics.

Dont spend any money yet....

Your GXP lights are tinted from the factory, so thats why they are different.

I had my GXP lights apart last week and they look pretty clear to me :???:

I have a feeling they're the same as non-GXP headlights, other than the orange corner being a bit darker and the high beam being of the HIR variety rather than 9005.

AFAIK the gxp headlights have a slight smoke to them.

Something about the headlight gives that appearance. Whether it's the lens that's smoked or everything inside that's darker I don't know.

You can either get the 3M kit and use a cordless drill, or some elbow grease and some 1000, 2000, 3000 grit sandpaper, and a PowerBall and Plast-X on a drill and go that way.

Here are the results of me using the 3M Kit: http://pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/ ... 14&t=18545

Yea I seen a few headlight restore kits at the parts store the other day I may have to try it out one day. I wanted to make sure for the sake of knowledge also that the regular headlights on ebay didnt mount in a different way vs the gxp headlights also but you guys said its just the factory tint thats the difference. gotcha appreciate that.

I picked up some ebay headlights. The fit for the aftermarket headlights will be the same, but they will not be "smoked" as mentioned. The designation of "Non-GXP" is also to tell you that you won't get the GXP's 9011 high beam bulbs, but the 9005 highs instead. The smoke makes no difference to me, I already have 9011 bulbs, and the lenses now look fresh and new.

But...........

The cutoffs on the TYC lights are not pretty. It looks like a Euro spec to me. Makes for an ugly beam pattern which annoys the hell out of me.

Yes, as mentioned before, GXP and non GXP lights will fit the same.

GXP lights are darker though - the amber plastic around the blinker bulb is darker, the little caps that cover the bulbs are black on the GXPs instead of chrome on the others, also behind the blinker bulb on the GXP is black rather then chrome. The lens itself is either tinted, or the chrome inside is like a black chrome or a combination of the two. Either way, they really look quite a bit different and the GXP lights really set off a black car IMO.

So the HIR high-beam bulb want just go intothe new/aftermarket housing? My bad if I sound or seem lost on this subject the last bonnevile I had was back 12 or 13 years ago and it was an 87 bonneville. Ive been dealing with mustangs for quite a bit so thats why im lost on the aftermarket headlight situation. I did notice that the brights are Very bright on these cars so if I went with an aftermarket housing all of the existing parts from the old/factory housing wouldnt swap over?

The major difference is that the GXP headlight is darkened and the HIR bulb is in there. It will swap, but it will require a little trimming, and I'm not sure if the reflector is different.

Don't waste your $$$ on different housings, clean these up and they'll look like new.

I have sanded and polished my gxp headlights and yes they did look brand new for about 2-3 weeks and then i had to polish them again to get them to look decent again. The outside of the lens is smooth but it has a cloudy type of haze that looks to be on the inside and im pretty much tired of dealing with them and may just get the non gxp headlights..

The non-GXP headlights won't be any better for hazing. You'll go through the same thing.
