I'd like to replace the short column shifter in my Ninety Eight with a longer one from another GM car. Is it just a matter of knocking the pin out and installing the replacement shifter, or does the column have to be disassembled?

I was recently wondering the same thing on my 99. I really like the shifter on my Mother's 2005 Buick Terraza. I'm guessing that's what you would have to do. I'll take a serious look at it tomorrow. But hopefully somebody will chime in with their experience too.

It should be as simple as knocking the pin out, provided the shifter clears everything else and uses the same method of moving the linkage. Go to the junkyard, find a car that you like the shifter out of and pull that one and look at it.

Idk if a 2005 shifter is compatible with a 99, I think they changed the design of mounting, etc. Not 100% on that however.
