My car has really dark tints (5%) and my reverse light sockets are wrecked from water damage. I already had one oops because I couldn't see. One too many. I like the dark tints and will be keeping them.

My plan is to hack the bulb cup out in the center light housing to fit a small white fog light in each. I figure the additional mass from using a whole standalone fog light should keep things cooler vs. using a high wattage bulb. Yes I know the fog light body and lens will get hot but I have no intentions of using them for any extended period of time. I'll pick up another center housing to work on so I can just swap them.

I'm sure a relay is in order but I wonder if the computer will tell me my reverse lights are still out when using the relay...

I doubt it. But if the relay dies on you it will let you know then.

Be careful. I ran halogen reverse bulbs (250% brighter than stock) on one of my cars until I noticed it was starting to melt the inside of the taillight lens.

That's why I'm thinking the added mass of an actual fog light housing should keep the plastic reverse lens from getting too hot for short durations. Like how a cast iron exhaust manifold takes longer to get hot versus a steel header.

Your theory won't save you. The reflector will project the heat and the light outward.

What kind of bulb does the reverse light use? Is it a 3057? If so, give this a try: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showth ... 3157-Bulbs

Made my reverse lights really bright, even through tinted tails. I also did it to my blinkers, and they're plenty bright too.

99 and older don't use the same bulbs as the 2k and newer.

Bill, that's why I asked, and said "If so, do this". Wasn't sure, but was trying to help.
