Hey Bonnie Nuts, [that did not sound right] anyways... :P ,

Our good friend harofreak00 is parting out his '00 SSEi. This is a win-win-win for the three of us. I know "Wait, but it's just you and harofreak00." Wrong. Don't for get he Bonnie. She will still live on in all of our cars through parts bought form harofreak00.

My question is "Can I install the sunroof of his '00 SSEi to my '00 SE?" I did check out my options and I did notice that on the SE there is a 12 Aux line in the top center console. Remember i am a rookie to the bone with car repair (not with audio, tho) and adding stuff I don't clearly understand, thus this is where you folks [Nuts] come in to play. I would like some responses to be as comical as mine.

Thanks :beerchug: ,

Dunny

I am in MN, therefore a headliner is out of the question. Because of their size, it would cost $150+ to ship it.

Also, adding a stock sunroof to a non-sunroof car is WAY more work than you are imagining right now. But to make things easier on your decision, I'll tell you that the sunroof assembly is sold already anyways.

it would probably be easier to just cut the roofs off at the pillars and swap.

All I need is a salvage yard to get one. Bonnie's are hard to find in salvage yards here. Also, what is the part name exactly or is it called the roof?

sonoma meant that as a joke. Do you have any idea of the costs to cut off and re-install a roof? More than your car is worth for sure.

You only real solution to this is an aftermarket sunroof... and those will run you about $1000+

It would be easier to buy a whole new car.

Well you see my "stupidness". But could I just swap the roof area. It appears from the outside to be a separate unit.

My I ask for a little more patience. I do remember in my past post stating the fact that I am a noob.

I love the dry humor. It reminds me of 80's slapstick.

EDIT: I just learned that the part I am wanting to swap is the "roof panel".

I had an aftermarket moonroof installed in my car, a 99 SE, it cost me about a grand.

Worth it for me.

Not for a cost that is cheaper than replacing your car. For kicks and giggles, call up your local body shop and ask them how much it would be to replace the roof on your car with another and see what they say.

The cost of replacing/repairing a roof is why cars are often totalled when there is even moderate roof damage.

It really is a non-option.

If you want a sunroof, you probably need to buy a new car. The Non-sunroof console in the 2000+ cars would not convert well to an added sunroof.

Why install a factory sunroof that is notorious for leaking into a car in the first place. And second the roof is the same piece that runs down beside the trunk it really would be a colossal waste of time, energy, and money

On that green bonneville in my sig, the roof was replaced, about 6 months before it was totaled out from the ins. co.(I hit 2 deer at the same time) this was in 2006, and obviously a bad year. I had a drunk friend who thought it was an appropriate place to stand on. The hood and roof were replaced for a total cost of $4900 dollars. the hood was 1100 painted with labor the rest was the roof; cut off, new one replaced, sunroof reinstalled. I also understand that the roof construction is a bit different between models but I doubt the cost would change much since most of it was labor. Unless you plan to do yourself, and with that beeing said good luck, keep in mind that this body shop had my car for 2 weeks and they are professinals. In agreeance, and with commonplace knowledge of the situation, I would agree with everyone in saying its not worth it. Your time or your money. Not trying to be a dream killer here, but take your car sell it add the money and time your planing on spending and buy a car that already has a sun roof.

Is more difficult skill wise than replacing a 1/4 panel minus the fact the front and rear glass needs to come out but it is much more work than doing a 1/4 panel. I am however in no way suggesting that you try it yourself.

Found a scrap yard that will sell me the whole assy for 500 bucks. Same color, just cut at the posts. This would come off a SSEi. And it has been done. With lots of patients. This is my 2011 summer project.

How good are you at running a welder and fabricating? Unless you're a professional body man, don't do this. You will have WAY more invested in this than in an aftermarket sunroof installed by a dealer, and a car with no roof.

The panel has six weld points. I will have my friend (a master welder) help me with this. As for the car with no roof...I always wanted a convertible. Never say never and don't tell someone they can't do it when there is a way. There are SE's with sunroofs. Cheers. :beerchug:

No one ever said it couldn't be done. We just said it would be very costly and there are better options out there....

I think you should chop it about 2" seeing how the roof will be removed anyways.
