Year and Trim: 1961 Bonneville 4 door hardtop

I'm new to GM's and in particular Pontiac. Can anyone tell me what small ( 5.0 or there-about) engine will swap into my '61? will it bolt to the existing automatic or do I have to swap the tranny also? Im looking for better MPG not performance. thanks
