I'm stuck!

After wrestling with the wire harness, and clearing other things out of the way, I have finally gotten the valve cover free, but there isn't enough room at the firewall to lift cover over timing chain to remove.

Help!!

Rick

After having a mechanic look at the valve cover unbolted, he agreed that there was no way to lift cover off without moving the engine - a whole nother can of worms times 4. Only a slight leak, so I put a really thin washer under bolt to give a little extra clamp force on the valve cover. Bolts are made to shoulder out on head limiting clamp force - just right for a new gasket.

Thanks.

I've done 100's of them working in a GM service department, including my own GXP back in the day. The engine doesn't need to be moved at all. It is very tight, but can be worked out. Removing the EGR tube from the back exhaust manifold. Yes, that main harness is a pain. But it comes out.

I agree you can get it out, but if you're looking for a little more clearance you could try dropping the front half of the subframe down a little to tilt the engine forward.

GM service manual states nothing about moving the engine or gaining clearance.
