Year and Trim: 2005 GXP
Hello All,

I am currently working on my 2005 Bonneville GXP.

I replaced head gaskets and bolts on this car in 2018 with new felpro parts. That time I dropped engine and trans through the bottom of the car.

This summer I noticed my temp gauge was a bit hotter than usual and fan was running too often. I bought a block test and sure enough head gaskets were bad again.

This time I decided to drill out the block and use Northstar Performance head studs.

I was able to remove motor only through the top and do the head stud install.

Last time I had problems timing the car and cradle had to come back out after first start. Definately trying to avoid having that problem again.

I am wondering which marks on the cams should line up to 90 degrees with the surface of the head.

I purchased a shop manual and AllData but neither shows the gears my 2005 model has.

It seems the marks for RI, LI, LE are not aligned to the pin in the cam and on the sprocket. The mark appears to be exactly 1 tooth off the alignment pin in each case.

My question is does the sprocket alignment pin on each cam need to be at 90 degrees or the markings on the gear?

I have attached photos of my setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
