Just wondering if anyone here has replaced a rear wheel hub assembly for any reason other than a WSS fault? Andrew told me he's never actually seen a rear fail before, so I believe it is very uncommon. I'm curious because I do think one of mine is no good.

I've recently been detailing my car, getting it ready for winter storage. I removed all the wheels, disassembled the brakes to detail the calipers and brackets along with cleaning and waxing the wheels. In the process, I found my LR wheel doesn't spin freely at all. This isn't the park brake, or any other braking influence because it happens even with the caliper off the bracket.

Several years ago I had a brake caliper seize on this side. It was ultimately replaced under warranty (which tells you how long ago this happened). The brakes obviously became extremely hot the car ended up getting towed to the dealer for service. I can't help but wonder if this didn't contribute my problem now.

Additionally, I just finished replacing my front wheel hubs because of a bad one on the RF. I had a droning sound going around long, left banking turns. After I pulled the hubs off, both were more difficult to rotate than the new OE hubs out of the box, but the RF required a significant amount of effort.

They don't spin freely like a fidget spinner or something. They should spin if you keep turning them by hand, but once you let go, they may have a little bit of continued rotation, but should pretty much stop shortly after. Remember, a 3,500 - 4,000 pound car on top of them, this isn't that much resistance.

Now if you're physically laboring/working to turn them by hand, perhaps with a "grinding" feel, then that's an issue.

The RR definitely spins as you describe, but the LR requires some concerted effort. Not as bad as the one I took off the RF, but close. That helps to confirm what I was thinking. Thanks!

My driver side rear hub failed massively, it looked like it had 2 inches of play. It would also set off the ABS and TRAC OFF lights when I hit a pot hole with it. The other side, the last remaining original hub on the car, is finally now starting to develop a slight bit of play at nearly 165k miles.
