I had to replace my coolant reservoir last fall because leaving it empty
during an extended waterpump replacement fouled up the level sensor
and it no longer worked. Seems to be a common occurrence.

I purchased a Dorman replacement from Rockauto. The sensor plug
would not click in place properly and it was constantly losing contact
giving false "low coolant" DIC warnings.

Anyway the darn thing split last week and started dumping antifreeze
when under pressure. I checked and it was barely still within the one
year warranty, so I got Rockauto to replace it.

Just got the new one and the sensor plug will not click into place on
it either. I had to file down the nub to get it to snap in place and hold tight.

Starting to not trust Dorman. Had a bad transfer case housing from
them that I had to grind with a dremel to get it to seat properly.

If you have to order a reservoir, maybe it's a good idea to pay almost
double and get the Delco one.

I've given up on low coolant messages on my GXP's. I just splice the wires together any bypass the sensor.

Skregal, Do you have an O'Reilly auto. Close to you? I bought one from them back in May, and it works prefect. And the plug snapped right into place, I think it was a little over 100 dollars.

The only one O'reilly sells is the Dorman one. They also want
$114 for it, which is more than Rockauto sells the Delco version.

For the most part, Dorman and all the others typically don't make the part themselves. They simply repackage. The coolant tank may be made by fukishima industries for pennies on the dollar, then Dorman comes in and buys 100k of them at a certain price then repackages and marks up. AC Delco the same, etc, etc...

Some parts are made better than others. Some are just a flawed design to begin with and the flawed design just keeps getting repeated.
