Is it the ACDelco 503-589? only $62 on Rock Auto.

or the ACdelco 506-254 (which is soft ride FE1 and FE2)

Any other options which are close to original?

I'll swap my springs, hopefully they aren't toast.

you can check the springs by measuring trim height - One of the ex gm guys may have the specs and where they are measured.

I put monroe air max on my 2000 SSEi and they handle slightly better than stock and provide a smooth ride. - they are direct fit, which is nice and fast.

I just need a couple options that fit height wise and handling feels somewhat normal.
If no one has good results to recommend then I will leave the old ones and
just change the failing mounts.

These Monroe air max, do they fit the GXP?

The 589s are the stiffer ones, that's what I would do personally. Swap your springs over, they should be fine. Grab some ACDelco strut mounts as well. I used Moogs and not the happiest outcome. A little noisy 30k down the line. Definitely not bad or broken by any means, but a little bit annoying.

Max-Airs are the rear shocks. Not applicable to this thread.

Thanks guys, I'll report back the outcome.

The mounts are toast and growling badly, struts have 160K on them
so might as well do it all at the same time.
