Hi guys,

My 04 GXP has a P0122 code, the throttle position sensor. Is it worth trying to clean it and the throttle body, or should I just replace the sensor?

Thanks

Good idea to clean the throttle body before replacing the sensor anyway so why not clean them and see if that solves your problem. Test it with a volt meter.

This has nothing to do with cleaning the throttle body. Also, replacing the TP Sensor is one of the last things to do.

There are three wires on a TP Sensor/wiring harness. 1) 5 volt reference 2) low reference 3) Actual TP sensor signal

1) Is a PCM supplied 5 volt reference
2) Is the ground
3) Is the actual voltage as determined by the rotation of the throttle blade ranging from <1v to 4.5v - 4.8v

This code is set when an exceptionally low voltage on the actual side, usually around .15v is observed for more than 1 second.

First thing I would check is the connectors in the weather pak connector or the terminals on the sensor...

Both of the connectors look just fine. Guess I will just replace the sensor.

Thanks

They can "look" fine. Have you tested the wiring. Maybe there is a short in the harness before the connector.

Jiggle the connector with some form of a scan tool attached, and monitor that reference circuit.

Just R&R'ing the sensor might be wasted money. It is actually one of the last steps AFTER exhausting all wiring/connection potential issues.

Too late... Replaced it an hour ago. Wasn't that expensive. The wiring appeared to be just fine. Guess I will find out. LOL! I did notice the new one has a return spring inside it, that the original one did not have, or it was no longer functioning.

So for just over 2 months of daily driving, I have had no check engine light. Now code P0122 is back again... I figured it was fixed with the new throttle position sensor. I have erased the code. We will see if it comes back again.
