I'm not saying that as a dig against the car as I owned one and enjoyed it overall, but outside of modern day Bonneville fans, no one out there is clammoring for a wrong wheel driven, cookie cutter platform, GM parts bin sourced vehicle.

As a roomy, comfortable 4 door sedan to use as a daily/psuedo daily, yes. A "collectible", no.

Here is the car I'm presently looking at...

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventory ... =172988337

Any significant differences between 04 and 05 GXP? Any other tell-tale signs to look for with regard to problems?

I know foamy oil on stick or white smoke on start-up can show head gasket leak, but then most places will do an oil change to hide that if possible. Other signs?

Not much difference between '04 and '05 other than some electronics/Network. Being the last year of the car, GM didn't invest much in terms of changes.

Believe it or not, I got the tentative "green light" from my bride last night! Although she added, "I love you, but I think you're crazy for buying a 13 year old car."

She may be right! LOL (but isn't that kind of a pre-requisite?)

In other "get carried away" news, I found these on eBay last night, and I think they would look amazing on the white GXP :)

NOOOO... Keep the GXP wheels. The GXP wheels are actually sexy to begin with...

Sorry..gotta have something shiny with a dish/lip. Never been a fan of a flat faced, dull silver wheel. But I would like to keep the Pontiac Arrow center caps.

Those wheels, just look, well, "Ghetto".

Do something to the GXP wheels. Machine face the front of the spoke, and then smoke or blacken the inset areas of each spoke, something...

That "organic" look of the GXP wheels is where it's at. A emergence from the hub out to the spokes with a lipless edge, rocks from an aesthetic perspective. Sucks from a mount/dismount perspective though.

I have to admit part of me is afraid I'm making the dreadful mistake of buying a problem child. I really hope once I get down there and see/drive the car, the experience will put me more at ease.

The current weather forecast is calling for rain on Tuesday so I guess I'll see if it has any leaks! LOL

If it overheats on the way home I'll just pull off the road, call AAA and cry while I wait! #-o :helpsmilie:

Take the VIN#, go to any GM service department and ask them to run it in GMVIS. It will detail every time that vehicle has been in contact with GM. Might find something there.

I would like to think that any stud issue would've presented itself by now. It has been 12/13 years and 100k.

Good to know about the GM service..thanks!

With regard to the wheels, I agree they look a bit over-flashy, but then I also think a white car is the ONLY thing they could possibly work on. I also admit they would probably be royal PITA to keep clean. In all honesty, what I would dearly love is a set of Year One Pontiac Snowflake wheels with either the black or gold inserts against the machined face/lip. They offer them in custom offsets (which means costly...about $1200/set and up) but I think they would look iconic on the car.

Looks like the party is over before it began. The dealer and I could not come to terms on the phone today. I wanted to trade my Taurus but we were WAY apart on figures so I'm not giving it away and eating the difference. I expected to eat a certain amount since I was trading down but not $6k which was more than he was asking for the car to begin with. No thanks.

I have to admit it really chaps my backsides when I contact one of these guys and give them all this info (including $$figures) up front and they always reply with how they can handle that no problem. With a credit score of 775, this certainly isnt about my end of finance, its about their profit margin. Now I know why he's had the car for 9 months.

As a crazy update...I looked today and the white GXP in Va Beach I originally looked at is STILL on the lot @ $4999

There must be something deathly wrong with this car...

a park and sell car lot has an '04 SE Bonneville and has had for over 5 years. they sold it once, then must have repo'd the thing. they wanted $6900 and stood fast. the car has issues and no options too.

So they have a 04 SE and they are asking $6900?
Car is now 14 years old and is the stripped down model.
I don't care what the mileage is they are nuts.
You can ask anything you want but it doesn't mean it will sell.
They will have the car another 5 years!!!
