Or just not worth it.

I passed an ISP Trooper on I88 through Aurora/Naperville one night when I still had the Monte Carlo. Must've been doing a buck 10, and he just flashed his head lights at me as I blew by him.

Lucky!!! Back in my younger days, in a Jaguar, I passed a sheriff at about a buck 50. Never saw any lights, I was the ONLY car on the road for miles. After a while I slowed, and eventually started to exit the highway. That's when he lit me up! That was some startling *shoot*!!!

In court he said he had his cruiser maxed out (120ish) and was just following my tail lights with his lights off until he eventually caught up with me. The judge seemed impressed I guess because I walked out with a 10-over fine and a night of driving school....

WON'T DO THAT AGAIN THOUGH!!!!

ps: Sorry Ghosthawk, for running off with your thread....

No problem at all...its entertaining...angling back to point, what kind of revs is your GXP turning at 100mph?
(Gotta be screamin' w/3:71 gears) whoa!

I recall being pleasantly surprised by my rpms and my my overall mpg for that trip. It seems to get mid 20's mpg on long trips but most of my driving is short and in town so my DIC says an average of about 16.x usually...

As for the rpms, if I remember correctly I don't think it was much more than a hair past 3500.

Well the conversation finally happened, both with my wife and daughter, and I was roundly beaten down for entertaining such thoughts, especially knowing I'd have to invest in another engine from the start. My bride also heavily reminded me that no car I've ever own went "un-decorated" as she calls it...and I must concede on that point.

So despite the bargain and the sex appeal of the car, its pretty much off my list...barring some sort of lotto miracle of course.
It's been great chatting with you guys again though...stay cool.

This beat down feeling... I know it QUITE well. Which is why I never even bother bringing up any of my wild aspirations.

The beat down feeling is a sad one. Maybe I should just get out of cars.. Hahaha. Take up painting. There's always something that comes between me and the acquisition of a racekar.

I have to give my wife credit...she knows me well, and whats worse is she beats me down with my own words. I swear she should've been a lawyer. Went kinda like...

Me; You dont find something like this often
Her; I thought you were tired of fixing Bonnie
Me; Well that one had a lot of miles on it and might need a trans soon
Her; But this one needs an engine
Me; Eventually, yes
Her; And how much 'decorating' (read mods) will this one need
Me; They all get wheels
Her; This one has a V8
Me; Yes, but smaller than the Hemi
Her; You've complained a lot about the fuel mpg
Me; This one would be a little better
Her; You also didnt like no fold-down back seat
Me; True, but its a beautiful car
Her; Aren't they all when you buy them...and what happened to both cars paid for by the time you retire
Me; Attention all hands, abandon ship, repeat-abandon ship, this is not a drill. *sounding claxon*

D@MN, she must be related to mine! The only time you can remotely get away with that is when it's a car you buy for her and she drives it, not you - LMAO! - BC

Isnt it crazy how much you can yearn for something you know will be the ultimate problem child? LOL

My Ghosthawk is the only car that ever left me road-stranded multiple times, which ordinarily is the kiss of death for car in my driveway, but when I look at this I miss it so BAD.

it doesn't help when I go on YouTube and listen to clips of GXPs with various exhaust mods...and they sound amazing!

AARRRGGHH! LOL :banghead: :poke: =P~ :)

Any major differences between the 04 and 05 GXP? (besides the funky rear window antenna) LOL

I think, after extensive deliberation, I am going to try and pick up a GXP. I have been very happy with the 2013 Escape I purchased last month for my daily driver, so if the car in the garage is going to be pampered, it may as well be something collectable (potentially anyway) and something I love. Bonnie the Ghosthawk was one of the most beautiful cars I've ever owned, and I loved it dearly. At least if the GXP proves unreliable, it will be somewhat expected and as a garage queen, not required for daily service.
After quite a bit a reading in this section, it sounds like the problems the GXP suffers from are able to be cured, not just patched. I've already communicated with Northstar Performance about either rebuilding or purchasing a crate motor, and the rest of the problems have mostly be addressed on these pages.
I'd like this to be the last 2nd car I buy, one that I can care for and enjoy for years, while it delivers miles of pleasure. The sound clips I've listened to rival any musclecar I've heard, and if fuel mileage isn't so great, that's okay. I think it will do as well as my Hemi Magnum did.
I'm going down next week to Va Beach to check out a white 2004 GXP w/tan inter and 100k on the clock.
I'm wide open for any feedback or ideas. This feels more impulsive, but its driven by how much I like the car and not how logical the idea is! LOL

A N* Bonneville will not be "collectible".

I'm not saying that as a dig against the car as I owned one and enjoyed it overall, but outside of modern day Bonneville fans, no one out there is clammoring for a wrong wheel driven, cookie cutter platform, GM parts bin sourced vehicle.

As a roomy, comfortable 4 door sedan to use as a daily/psuedo daily, yes. A "collectible", no.

LOL ;) It brings a certain sense of order to the world when you reply to a post (and I mean that in the best kind of way!) We all know when anything gets old enough, it will become collectible. Collectible value on the other hand is always a relative thing (beauty in the eye of the beholder) But someday, certainly not now, the GXP's value will rise above other models because its the topline offering of its day and was only produced for two years. Right now, its at the bottom of any such cycle.

So few times have I ever owned one of the top-flight models. It was always getting something lesser and personalizing it in my own way. The GXP would be a car not so much for modding, but keeping very close to stock, not for its value but because I like the car pretty much as is. There is no need for it pretend to be something its not.

I place high value on your opinion, both based on your experience and your lack of sugar-coating things! LOL I still find myself quoting you on the "Size 10 girl in a size 5 dress," which is both accurate and oddly appealing.

For me, the Bonneville has always been the adult, 4dr Firebird, and with that in mind, the GXP is the Bonneville TransAm. I strongly considered a Grand Prix GXP, but that car lacks the outright sexy shape of the Bonneville IMO.

Thanks for weighing in :beerchug: I'm sure I may be seeking more advice in the time to come (if this deal flies...I do still have to get this past my other half at home, so I'm not out of the woods yet! But I persist)

Don't inflate my head, ego, or anything else please. They're all pretty big to begin with. :)

Again, I'm not knocking the car and I suppose with time, anything unique can become something, well, unique. I like them too, otherwise I wouldn't be here. But I look at them purely as another means of transport.
